TRANSIT LOVES
THE ARTS

About the Campaign:

You know those ads that appear on Miami’s buses, trains, and transit stations? We took some of them over with art created by local artists for an epic mobile canvas. In September of 2016, we launched the Transit Loves The Arts initiative, in collaboration with support from Miami-Dade County Transportation and Public Works, and The New Tropic.

Our transit stations, and the vehicles that run through them, are highly visible parts of our county. We wanted to use them to elevate local talent and showcase artistic experiences that make our transit system a more pleasant place to be.

Our primary focus was to help redesign Miami-Dade’s buses, so our judges looked for art concepts that would look great out on the road. But we also accepted submissions for art in stations, on trains, and other places. Digital art submissions were printed on large formats, so we asked artists to think big.

How it worked:
What happened when they won: The top five entries selected by our panel of judges were wrapped over an entire bus, for all of Miami to see plus $500 cash prize offered by The New Tropic. 15 select runners up got their work published on bus backs and $100 cash prize offered by The New Tropic.
