That’s right. You know, those fresh produce, homemade granola, artisanal goods spots where you bring your own refillable containers and that only exist in places like Portland or Seattle? Yeah, that’s what we’re talking about. The place is called Verde Market and it’s run by two best friends Martha and Pam who, as a primary goal, want to make Miami more…well, verde.

In essence, Verde Market is a sustainable, lifestyle bulk refill store. It’s complete with every needed household item from milk and laundry detergent, fresh juice and even dog treats. The only catch is to help get customers into the habit of reusing containers, and minimizing our trash output. “Verde is probably a glimpse of the market of the future, or at least that is what we hope” said Martha. With the current state of the world’s waste habits and their effects on climate environment, concepts like this are essential for survival.

Conscious Shopping

More than just a shopping destination, Verde is a way to breed a new perspective and conscious practices in Miami. Any local has noticed the amount of trash left on the beach after a holiday weekend or the plastic floating along our canals. Concepts like this help build the bridge between prioritizing health and creating a zero-waste lifestyle. This may be the owners’ first venture into the world of sustainable markets but the issue has been important to them for many years. “We don’t have all the solutions for a plastic free life but at least we try” Martha said.

At Verde, you’ll be greeted with a light-filled open-shelved marketplace, complete with refill stations and all sorts of local goods. Natural and Organic Soaps (personal & home cleaning), kombucha, fresh OJ, raw honey, bulk nuts and nut butters. Coffee, dried fruits, superfoods, infused olive oils and balsamics. Dog treats and friendly, knowledgeable staff reading for suggestions on new products to carry. These are all the norm at Verde Market, and any easily loved neighborhood joint.

Local Love

In just two months, the market has already garnered a hugely positive neighborhood following, with customers becoming instant regulars. It’s snuggled among an already retail-active NE 2nd Ave in the Edgewater area, busy with businesses and a family-oriented demographic. It’s no surprise that Verde has had a warm welcome in a neighborhood searching for locally-sourced and fresh ingredients. They carry Miami brands like Angry Booch, VitaVie, Le Chien Gourmet, Verdi Foods and many more. Their thoughtful effort to impact the lives of both their partners and their customers is immediate. Spend just a few minutes in this market and we know yours will be changed for the better.
