Over a Year In, and Support Local is Spanning Florida

June 18, 2018admin

For over a year and a half, Support Local FL has been dedicated to providing a platform for connecting with makers and business owners in a deeper, more constructive way. To us, it’s more than championing our small businesses, it’s ensuring that the ecosystem and infrastructure is designed with their success in mind. The platform and directory have grown and evolved since its inception. After over a dozen mixers and meet-ups, over 11,000 social followers and a community of supportive people, here’s where Support Local is at now:

New Permitting Website

After bringing together a small group of local businesses for a pilot program with The City of Miami, we partnered with The City and Wyncode to user test The City of Miami’s completely redesigned permitting site. Taking in the feedback, The City is currently working on making the process more understandable, efficient, and less time-consuming–especially for first-time business owners. Check it out.

Directory Growth

When we started over a year and a half ago, Support Local massed about 75+ local businesses. Now, thanks to a continuous conversation (and our dedicated Community Manager) the directory spans over 300 businesses. We originally started in Miami, but now the collection of businesses now includes cities like Islamorada, Orlando, St. Pete, and Fort Lauderdale.

Collaborations Continue

The perk of having a directory of businesses is having access to collaborating with each of them in powerful ways. We were able to partner with The Salty Donut on making t-shirts that you can snag at their store. Our neighborhood maps illustrated by Beth Rhodes are a great spotlight on the local landmarks and businesses that identify these areas. And StartUP FIU Food has several of their entrepreneurs in Whole Foods coming up later this year.

We Got Swag

Speaking of great goodies you can pick up, we’ve made an active point to spread the Support Local brand across the city. PAMM, Bookstore + Kitchen, and soon to be Sweat Records all now have our pins for sale at their counters and gift shops. But if you can’t make it to any of their stores, you can snag a few on our online store.
