Date-wise, Miami summer is officially upon us, although it certainly has been feeling like we’re already deep into the season. With the afternoon showers and the muggy evenings, not much would excite a Miamian to leave their house. That is, except for the promise of a really good time. The end of June marks great goings on, like concerts in historical venues and cultural markets. Peep our curated selections here:

Saturday, June 16th:

Aborschtion 2: Mall-A-RamaThis is the second pop-up film festival Borscht have been forced to throw with little support and money. They came up with Aborschtion 2: MALL-A-RAMA, a reimagining of your favorite shopping center, wherein you can celebrate the market without the yucky parts. It’s going to be great.

Subtropics 2018 MarathonMiami’s marathon of experimental music and sound art brought to you by Audiotheque and Art/Center South Florida.

Open Studios at BACJenna Efrein and Lauren Shapiro, both resident artists from Bakehouse Art Complex, have been accepted into two prestigious residencies to take place during summer of 2018. They are opening their studios to offer visitors exclusive looks at new works and special incentives for those wishing to donate to help fund their projects.

Exhibition Opening ReceptionAn unparalleled opportunity for audiences to view rarely seen contemporary art from four major indigenous artistic traditions in India, this exhibition showcases works from the Gond and Warli communities of central India, the Mithila region of Bihar, and the narrative scroll painters of West Bengal.

RUFUS DU SOLRüfüs Du Sol is an alternative dance group from Sydney, Australia, that consists of Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George and James Hunt.

Summer Hackers CampSummer Hackers is a two-week immersive summer camp featuring hands-on activities focused on introducing future creators to emerging technology. Students will be introduced to and will develop fundamental skills for creating and thinking about cutting-edge technology with the latest digital tools available. The curriculum is centered around spending the first week exploring new technologies such as coding, electronics, robotics and AI, virtual reality, game design, 3D design and printing, animation and music production, drones, and more.

Before There Was HouseIn the early 70s, DJs like the late and great Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles didn’t have record stores filled with different genres of house music. This was before clubs like; The Warehouse and Paradise Garage, venues that are credited with starting House Music. Instead, they were renown for blending bits of rock, soul, and rhythm & blues alongside disco fare to create soundscapes to which many danced late into the night. Decades returns with a celebration of this special time in music that set the stage for clubbing culture as we know it today.
