Locally-filmed Series, GROWN Premieres on Complex

May 22, 2018admin

Today marks a landmark occasion for Miami. In its sweeping move to support produced online series-form content, Complex is launching its campaign with “GROWN”. The cultural media platform premieres its first scripted series today, May 22nd and it’s set in the 305 of all places. Before you envision highly paid athletes in high rises or table-side clubs on Miami Beach, don’t. It’s not that kind of story.

A True Perspective.

Created by local theatrical wunderkinds, Joshua Jean Baptiste and Edson Jean, “GROWN” tells the story of two Haitian-American twenty-somethings navigating the often hilarious yet seriously real landscape of Miami’s cultural identity, while trying to figure out their own along the way. For Miami locals, the show will be a breath of fresh air and a positive step forward to showcasing our city in an authentic light. For outsiders, the context and narrative are just relatable enough to fit anywhere in the world and still hit close to home.

Behind the series is the Emmy-winning Adaptive Studios who launched a crowd-sourced Project Greenlight contest last year, from which Baptiste and Jean instantly stood out. And won. Proud doesn’t even begin to explain how we feel right now. We’re overjoyed at this chance for a new Miami narrative. Excited for a minority-facing story to finally face the limelight. Thrilled that we’re living in a time where this story is not only relevant but reality. And it all couldn’t be in more well-deserving hands.

Watch it live.

Congratulations to them and to everyone on the “GROWN” project! The series premieres tonight on Complex, and you can catch a public screening with the cast on June 5th! Find out more here.
