Your Guide to HOC Music Festival

You’ve been hearing us talk about this weekend’s House of Creatives Music Festival for a bit now and there’s a lot of things to be excited for. From international headliners like alt-J and MGMT to supporting our hometown acts, the lineup alone is something everyone should buzz about. But the day trip to Virginia Key Beach Park is packed with a lot of things to be prepared for so check out our festival kit:

Come Prepared.
Looking at the weather this weekend, we’ve got some nice days ahead. A little windy, a little partly cloudy–definitely not unbearably hot. Remember it’s on an island where things like weather are even more exaggerated so we suggested coming prepped with a light jacket, comfy shoes for walking and dancing, sunglasses, bug repellent, and of course a hat to keep the blowing hair in check.

Plan Your Schedule.
HOC Fest just released their daily lineups so make sure you leave enough time for commute, arrival, check-in, drink-getting, and snagging a good spot. The festival is open both days from 3PM until 11PM so keep that in mind when planning your pre and post activities. Our pro tip? Beach access is available before doors open so start your day with some ocean air and get in before it gets crazy.

Getting There.
Remember that this is at Virginia Key Beach Park so there are a few things to take into account. Parking is available on-site for $15, but if you don’t want to deal with finding a designated driver, we suggest getting your crew together and ride sharing to and from the festival. Pick a spot to meet up before the festival, pregame, and head out as a group. Plus, it means you can keep the party going even after 11PM.

Come Hungry (and Thirsty).
Sure, there’s a lot of music to get excited for, but we’re looking at the food lineup for real. They’re bringing together some pretty delectable local eats like El Bagel, Vice City Bean, Tacos & Tattoos, Mr PB&J, Doggystyle Hotdogs and more plus national eats like Burger Supreme all the way from Brooklyn. Their drinks won’t be too shabby either, with an epic Beck’s Beer VIP Lounge awaiting the bougie in all of us.

Bring Your Wallet.
Yes, obviously to cover all the food and brinks you’ll be buying for your friends at a generous rate, but also to have on-hand when you fawn over the artisanal goods their other merchants will have in store. The Wander Shop’s airstream will be filled with dope digs, Bohindie Stream will be sure to have some delicately beautiful jewelry, and there’s a dozen more where that came from.

What To Do After.
Although the festival might not have official afterparties, there’s tons of things happening this weekend that would be a perfect topper to a great musical celebration. The Wynwood Yard will be having great live jams both nights, and Floyd Miami will be getting down jungle-style with LUM. Electric Pickle is going to be funky on Saturday with No Regular Play, and both Gramps and The Ground have great lineups waiting for you on Sunday night.
