The first half of the year has come and gone, and we’re still wondering what happened to April. With Fourth of July hot on our heels and the long days of summer ahead of us, there’s so much time to have a blast everywhere our city hold its magic. From fruit festivals and jazz nights, to daytime BBQs and epic concerts, the first half of July has it all:
Saturday, July 1st:
25th Annual International Mango Festival – Join Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden as they celebrate our tropical summers with the juiciest event. Enjoy two days of the King of Tropical Fruit. Lectures, cooking demonstrations and tips to keep your mango trees thriving, pick up a trick from local chefs, shop artisan vendors or pick up delicious foods from local vendors, sample refreshing brews perfect for Summer.

Lychee Summer Celebration –Come celebrate the 4th of July on Saturday July 1st the Miami way at this tropical free event. With vendors, food trucks , live art commemorating all branches of the armed forces, 4 live bands and DJ.

Pete Rock & CL Smooth – One of the most influential and prolific producer/MC duos in hip hop history comes to Sidebar Miami for a historic performance you won’t want to miss. Discover why the genre has lasted so long.

ArtOLocos – Kick off your month with the Saturday “living room sessions” on July 1st. Miami’s hip hop funk outfit ArtOfficial will be joined by the local favorite Latin band and their brothers in music, 2x Grammy nominated Locos Por Juana. You can expect classic tunes new and old, plus a whole lot of jamming in between.

Sunday, July 2nd:
Over Under Gator BBQ – Over Under is setting up camp at the Broken Shaker for a Swamp BBQ. They are serving the finest in wetlands cuisine, including a full-sized mean-old alligator. Guests can also expect cocktails shaken up with local, foraged, and special sub-tropical ingredients found only in Miami. You can dip your feet in the pool and your face in a drink as we celebrate Florida and July 4th.

Recess in July – My Mama Styles presents RECESS: A Family Friendly Art & Craft Beer Spot. First Sundays at South Miami’s Lincoln’s Beard Brewery off of Bird Road. Just because you have kids doesn’t mean you have to confine yourself to playgrounds and birthday parties for outside entertainment!

Live Music Yoga with Cuci – The weekly Sunday evening Live Music Yoga class at Inhale Miami. This Sunday, Cuci from Afrobeta will be teaching! Claudio Celso will be playing his amazing electric guitar. This class includes breathwork techniques, asana class and meditation.

Just the Tip Comedy Show – As the title suggests, host Danny Benavente and the other comics collect tips throughout the show, so make sure to bring some cash. The comics get longer set times, giving them a chance to try out their more developed material. This month’s lineup includes: Chris Silio and Kaytlin Bailey (NY). Plus N64, ping pong, local craft beer, and good vibes.

Wake Up Miami – Wake up Miami! is back from July to December 2017, a series of concerts presented by #PAXyOrg. Enjoy free Live Music at the Government Center Metromover Station while drinking a Cup of Jose Coffee. Summer Series is opening with Deaf Poets.

DJ Rich Medina Motown Monday – Celebrate Independence Day and the 1 year anniversary of Motown Monday. For the past two decades, Rich Medina has cemented his reputation as an elite DJ, one of few on the planet capable of taking audiences worldwide on a sonic journey through hip-hop, house, soul, afrobeat, funk, breaks and dance classics. Tuesday, July 4th:
BBQ & Chill – Join The Wynwood Yard for a Fourth of July BBQ with delicious offerings by Charcoal Garden Bar + Grill. ESCO performs their soul-driven tunes live. Enjoy beer specials and delicious food from our resident concepts. Everyone is welcome.

House Savage 4th of July Getdown – House Savage returns to Lagniappe House July 4th. They will be playing some new stuff and bringing the funk as always. The band is Sam Savage- Trombone, Ted Zimmerman – Trumpet, Tim Jago- Guitar, Big Brooklyn Red- Vocals, Marcel Salas- Bass, Ivan Palma- Drums.

Wednesday, July 5th:
Subtropics 24 Summer Festival – For its 24th edition, Subtropics Biennial will become a Summer Festival and will feature live performances by Olivia Block, Abbey Rader, John Driscoll, Jack Wright, Richard Garet, Barbara Held and AMEE members, Miguel Álvarez-Fernández and Victor Aguado Machuca. With openings for a sound art exhibition titled LISTEN by artistic director, Gustavo Matamoros and an installation by Alba Triana and end three weeks later with its classic Subtropics Marathon.The festival will also offer workshops and seminars about experimental music, free musics and sound art with authors Jennie Gottschalk, Jack Wright and Christoph Cox and so much more.

I’m Not Gonna Move to LA: Music Video Edition – On July 5th, celebrate music videos made by local filmmakers. Help pick the best music video created in South Florida. Submissions are now open!

Thursday, July 6th:
PAMM Free Community Night – Miami Music Club partners with PAMM for an evening of two highly-charged performances: RRLEW (Providence, RI) creates richly-textured, lesbian-utopian operas. CUBE (Oakland, CA) fuses disparate genres, from industrial to techno to noise, to create crunchy ear-worms that have a pop catchiness and punk spirit. Romulo Del Castillo (Miami, FL), founder of the legendary Schematic Music Company, will DJ.

SBD Shark Week: Keg & Klean – The trifecta of Miami cleanup organizations is teaming up with the two Miami Beach surf shops to unite under the causes of clean oceans and free beer! As a part of Shark Week 2017 – South Beach Divers, Debris Free Oceans, Surfrider Foundation and VolunteerCleanup.Org will be hosting a collaborative Keg & Klean beach cleanup with F1RST SHOP. BOTE will be providing demo paddleboards so that you can take this cleanup into the ocean.

Full Moon Yoga – The Full Moon Yoga Series at the Deering Estate provides an opportunity to enjoy the sunset and end of the day, while welcoming the full moon at one of the most beautiful settings in Palmetto Bay. Each session will host a guest or special theme to make for a unique experience.

Average Joe Sunday Market – Come browse a hand-picked selection of artist vendors every 2nd Sunday at Yo Space selling affordable prints, originals and other goodies. This month they’re showcasing: In addition to the artwork, they also have their N64 ready to time warp you back to the good old days, and ping pong table to challenge your friends.

Vamos a la Playa ft. Awesome Tapes from Africa – Vamos a la Playa is back with something a little different! Awesome Tapes From Africa makes his Miami debut with his unique collection of rare tracks from Africa. Brian Shimkovitz was on a Fulbright scholarship in Ghana when he got hooked on the cassette culture of the region.

Sweet Taboo R&B Party – A monthly R&B party series. They’ve packed up the Hip Hop records, taken off the sneakers and threw on the jackets & 4″ heels for a new, sensual experience. Jurassic Park 35mm – Few films inspire the imagination as much as Steven Spielberg’s landmark adventure film Jurassic Park. When released in 1993, its CGI and animatronic dinosaurs were unlike anything the world had seen before. It was hard not to believe an actual island was created with these long-dead behemoths roaming the land.

Bondax at Floyd Miami – Bondax is an electronic music duo consisting of English musicians Adam Kaye & George Townsend. Bondax’s sound has often been described as genre-transcending; Moses Wiener of Dazed details the band’s sound as “the aural equivalent of sipping an ice-cold Pimms on the balcony of your council estate flat.”.
