It was a relatively dry April for Miami, but where water was lacking, culture was raining. Heading into May, the city is ramping up for the all too present heat by reacting in the only way they know how: partying it up. The beginning of May marks a lot of celebrations (other than Star Wars references) like National Small Business Week, Cinco de Mayo, markets and anniversaries so get ready to be guided by the culture:
Tuesday, May 2nd:
Support Local DDA Grant Office Hours – In recognition of National Small Business week, we are happy to announce business grant “office hours” taking place in Downtown Miami at Meraki Greek Bistro. Come meet the DDA’s Downtown Business Concierge and receive information about how you can receive up to $50,000 in matching funds to improve your store front in the neighborhood or chat with us on how to join the Support Local initiative and more.

Wednesday, May 3rd:
The Market #atMDD – Join the Miami Design District every Wednesday for their weekly market featuring more than 40 different vendors selling local produce, specialty foods, artisan goods, fresh flowers and more.

SunFest – Five days, three stages, and 50 bands! Founded in 1982, SunFest is Florida’s largest waterfront music and art festival along the intracoastal in downtown West Palm Beach, Fla. Headliners include: Blink-182, FloRida, Fetty Wap, Widespread Panic and more.

Support Local Happy Hour – To celebrate Small Business week, partake in a Support Local business mixer at The Anderson Bar. Enjoy a specialty #SupportLocalFL cocktail over great conversation with local business owners in our community. Get to know the stories behind some of your favorite small businesses and let’s spark conversations that will help move Miami forward.

Words & Wine Open Mic – Another classic open mic is back in the heart of Wynwood. All drummers, acoustic musicians, hoopers, dancers, jugglers, and freaks of all kind invited. Get together, drink some wine, share some thoughts and be happy.

‘Chasing Trane’ Miami Screening – The thought-provoking, uplifting, powerful and passionate film about an outside-the-box thinker known as John Coltrane whose boundary-shattering music continues to impact and influence people around the world. Opening: Enlightened Photography Exhibition – YoungArts alumni delve into body, race, urbanism, current affairs, and history through their camera lenses in YoungArts’ first-ever photography exhibition. Curated by YoungArts master teacher and panelist Michelle Dunn Marsh, the show will feature the works of 27 multi-generational artists.

Palm Court Performance Series – The Palm Court Performance Series is a weekly Friday night ensemble of live musical performances that are open to the public and produced by 19-time Grammy© Award winning producer Emilio Estefan in collaboration with the Miami Design District. Emily Estefan will perform fresh off live concert performances in New York, Los Angeles and most recently at SXSW in Austin.

More than miles – A 3 mile run along the beach led by ambassador and co-founder of IRun Company, Hector Arana. Little River Coop Summer Plant Sale – The Little River Cooperative Summer plant and Fruit tree sale is upon us! Talk plants, buy plants, and hang out with plants. The Underline Cycling Club – Explore The Underline’s future and existing connections and destinations in our beautiful city! Rooftop Unplugged – After a wet last performance, see magic wash over the city skyline at the Filling Station Lofts for the crowd-favorite concert, Rooftop Unplugged Sessions!
