Press Play (HOC Edition): Empress Of
November 16, 2016admin
Empress Of is the alias of New York based singer-songwriter Lorely Rodriguez, who embodies that sense of feminine strength that is reflected in her music. It explores the strong synth-pop beats that create a cool mix of music. The Honduran-American artist released her debut full-length album, Me, only last year. The songs on the album emphasize Rodriguez’s incredible vocal range that is layered with dreamy electronic sounds that also include elements of R&B.
Rodriguez’s latest single, “Woman is a Word”, is officially one of my favorite girl power anthems and once again explores synth-pop popular in the 80s with this song. She has blended the personal experience with the political in her music, especially with this song. The frustration she has is felt a lot in the lyrics and the way she sings which really resonates with women everywhere. We can only hope to hear more from this empowering vocalist and maybe another full-length album in the near future.
While you might be waiting for some new music, you should definitely check out her performance at this week’s House of Creatives Music Festival. The inaugural festival will take place November 18 and 19 at the North Beach Bandshell and will host a tightly curated selection of musicians and artists that will take-over the beautiful beach-front grounds. House of Creatives is meant to bring together and celebrate creatives in all aspects of music and art that are pushing boundaries in Miami’s cultural movement.
With a wide selection and range of musical genres, the line-up features top-tier international acts, The Flaming Lips, Crystal Castles, Cold War Kids, Empress Of, Shigeto and launches local acts to their level. While including an incredible spectrum of musical acts, the festival will also include an array of art installations, gourmet food selections, local artisan vendors and live art to create an immersive experience. With world class production spanning multiple performance spaces, the festival is sure to bring a unique and exciting experience to the magic city. Snag tickets here.
