Because You Asked For It: Prism’s Halloween Guide

October 25, 2016admin

Maybe it’s the costume thing, maybe it’s the bout of nostalgia that washes over you reminding you of candy crusading in your youth, but everyone can agree that Halloween is easily one of the funnest holidays every year. Regrettable decisions or not, it’s always a blast. Although some stores are already putting up Christmas decorations (I see you, Barnes & Noble), Halloween is just a few days away and the city is aflurry with raucous getdowns slated to happen this weekend. But we’re here to spotlight the not-so-average parties, the ones that might bring a higher level of meaning to your celebration. Take a look:

Suwannee Hulaween – The once traveling festival hosted by The String Cheese Incident, one of the most influential jam bands in the genre, has called Florida’s Suwannee River Music Park & Campground home for the past four years. This one’s slated to be their biggest yet with guest headliners like STS9, My Morning Jacket, Disclosure, Big Gigantic, Umphrey’s McGee, Anderson.Paak, Gramatik, Snarky Puppy and so so many more. Set in an aged forest of oaks and pines, sprinkled with pyrotechnic and LED art installations of the likes of Burning Man, it’s the best weekend experience, hands down. Snag Tickets here.
When: October 28th-30th. Where: Suwannee River Music Park & Campground.

Bay Skate Miami – The outdoor skating experience you know and love is back in support of our public parks and our local community and culture. It will feature a full bar, interactive activation and craft cocktails by presenting sponsor, Zignum Mezcal, and other surprises. They’ll also have a selection of local craft beers, delicious eats, and your favorite local DJ’s setting the mood. Like the years of our childhood, there are two skate sessions: an All Skate Session from 5-7PM and an Adult Skate Session from 7PM – 12AM. It’s free if you bring your own skates. Get down get dooooown.
When: Saturday, October 29th. Where: Bayfront Park.

On Stage

Deathscribe Miami – Hear ghoulish, chilling, suspenseful, and downright grotesque radio scripts performed by a cast of top talent from Chicago’s Wildclaw theatre with the assistance of sound effect geniuses known as Foley artists, live musicians, and sound designers. Showcasing the very best of Deathscribe—a selection of the top tales from the award-winning theater company’s eight-year history. They’ll bring these stories of terror and their whole cabinet of horrors along with them. Each night they will present the top five stories in a best-of showcase run hosted by Artistic Director Josh Zagoren. Come dressed in your favorite Halloween costume for a chance to win a door prize! Snag tickets here.
When: October 27th – 29th. Where: Adrienne Arsht Center

Nu Deco Ensemble Season Two Opener – Season Two of Nu Deco Ensemble begins at Wynwood’s own Light Box at Goldman Warehouse. Witch! Please – In just over two years, Villain Theater has already begun to lead the pack of a new comedy generation in Miami. Join your favorite Villains for a night of comedy & partying at their second annual Halloween show. Featuring fall AF activities such as: Where My Witches At? On Screen

“Moonlight” at O, Cinema – In a film The New York Times called “an urgent and breathtaking gift,” Moonlight chronicles the life of a young black man named Chiron from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami. Filmed right here in our own backyard in Liberty City, Moonlight has received sweeping praise and gained international attention. Directly following the film, there will be a discussion with McCraney, the playwright whose work the film had adapted. This is a can’t-miss moment.
When: October 28th – November 3rd. Where: O, Cinema Wynwood.

The Party

Devil’s Night with Honey Dijon – For the right all-night Halloween pre-party, when you can actually wake up hungover the next day, we’d head to one of our favorite spots in town: The Electric Pickle. This year, the Pickle is dressing up like the Windy City for Halloween. Join them as they welcome the extremely versatile and talented Miss Honey Dijon for her Pickle debut along with local Chicago transplant and Miami native Mystic Bill. Devil’s Night has never been this debauched, snag your tickets here.
When: Saturday, October 29th. Where: The Electric Pickle.

Horror at Gramps – To avoid the possibility of doing something extra irresponsible, try to party at multiple places within walking distance from each other. Wynwood will be perfect for that. From HalloWyn and other bar parties, we suggest hitting Gramps up first. Join them and Milagros for a free Halloween fiesta with performances by: MISS TOTO, Jazz Prison, Ironing, B.B. Deathshrimp, and pari∀h. Spooky Manicures by PORN NAIL$, Adrienne Tabet body art, and other surprises. Plus, a free shot with a costume ain’t so bad.
When: Monday, October 31st. Where: Gramps Bar.
