Culture Guide: July 1st – July 15th

July 3, 2015admin

Halfway through the year and it seems like 2016 is just around the corner, doesn’t it? The great thing about the long days and slow-moving winds of summer is that mother nature reminds us to slow our roll and take some time to just chill. Hang with friends in great company, let the beer drip onto the pavement, and sink those feet in the sand. Why don’t you take the party to some of our favorite upcoming events, ey?

Take a peak at the best hams and jams in the next coming two weeks. No cliché holiday parties included.

Thursday, July 2nd:

Big LeBowlski – Aside from bumping Deep House weekend getdowns, BasementMIAMI brings the roof down with its unadulterated love for anything fun. And why not pay tribute to one of the greatest pop-culture flicks of all time while you’re at it? Head over on the 2nd whether you’re part of a league or just a fan and have some laughs among the lanes with great tunes, and Sailor Jerry sips.
Where: BasementMIAMI – 2901 Collins Ave. Time: 9PM – 2AM. Tickets: Free.

Bedside (Live) – The gracious minds at Bardot have listened to the masses and are bringing back live tunes to the beloved carpet! Starting this Friday, some of the best instrumentals will bounce off the art-covered walls of the Midtown hang beginning with local sonic heroes, Bedside. Presented by Young Artist Initiative.
Where: Bardot – 3456 N Miami Ave. Time: 10PM (Doors). Tickets: Free.

Friday, July 3rd:

The Butcher Shop’s 2-Year Anniversary – It’s hard to believe the beloved Wynwood beer garden is already in its “terrible twos”. With all the hazy nights leaving that place, we can’t believe there have been over 700 of them in the books. Head there this Friday for delicious beer tapping and liquor specials, succulent menu items, and pitchers on pitchers. DJ Friendly on the decks all night long.
Where: The Butchershop – 165 NW 23rd ST. Time: 8PM – 2AM. Tickets: Free.

Saturday, July 4th:

Red, White, & Brew – Okay, we can’t call it a “culture guide” without at least one Fourth of July bash. So we might as well serve up the sweetest deal of them all. Boxelder will be patriotic as fuh as they serve only the best local brews for a special South Florida Craft Beer Celebration. There’ll growlers for the raffling, BBQ for the finger-licking, and games for the playing. Miami food trucks, local breweries, and everything else that makes this the best place to call “home”.
Where: Boxelder – 2825 NW 2nd Ave. Time: 1PM – 2AM. Tickets: Free w/ RSVP.

Sunday, July 5th:

Fire Pit Meditation: There’s a reason why The Standard lives up to its heavy name. It provides a) the best waterfront views of the city (don’t try to argue with us on that) and b) it continuously keeps the bar at a high with a variety of wellness initiatives that never get old, or stinky. We’ll be there this Sunday for a Fire Pit Meditation session with Eben Oroz as we picture ourselves under the Bodhi Tree.
Where: The Standard Spa – 40 Island Ave. Miami Beach. Time: 8PM – 9PM. Tickets: Get em.

Tuesday, July 7th – 23rd:

AMY (2015) – A pure jazz artist in the most authentic sense, Amy Winehouse wrote and sang from the heart using her musical gifts to analyze her own problems. Her huge success resulted in relentless and invasive media attention which, coupled with Amy’s troubled relationships and precarious lifestyle, saw her life tragically begin to unravel. Fall in love with the British powerhouse all over again through unseen footage and intimate moments as the Amy documentary comes to life at both Regal South Beach and O Cinema (Wynwood) for a two-week showing.
Where: Regal South Beach 18 or O Cinema Wynwood. Tickets & Showtimes: Here and Here.

Wednesday, July 8th:

Arts & Drafts: Mixed Media – Seriously, The New Tropic can do absolutely no wrong. One of our favorite event series they’re currently mastering is the Arts & Drafts workshop where you get crafty while drinking brews that may also be constituted as…crafty. This time, they’ll be tackling mixed media curated by local artist, Stephanie Shaheen.
Where: The New Tropic – 7235 NW Miami CT. Time: 7:30PM – 10PM. Tickets: Free w/ RSVP.

Thursday, July 9th:

Dance Band Night: Contradance – The Rhythm Foundation‘s latest community initiative, Dance Band Night, is back for its third installment and this time, it’s getting patriotic. The twinkly toes at Cornbread will lead the crowd through classic line dance steps to the tune of Americana music under the stars. The North Beach Bandshell will go back to our roots, complete with mouth-watering BBQ to boot.
Where: North Beach Bandshell – 7275 Collins Ave. Time: 7PM – 10PM. Tickets: Free.

Friday, July 10th:

&gallery Pop-Up Series #4: Disposable Ethic – A series of photographs accompanied by a live performance by Christin Paige Minnotte originally performed off the shores of Cuba as part of the Havana Biennial in May. The exhibit intends to illuminate the irony of industrial progress, specifically with respect to plastics in the ocean. The artist will be re-creating the performance at &gallery in a specially fabricated tank made of plexiglass, filled with water, a struggling human, and a lot of plastic.
Where: &gallery – 6306 NW 2nd Ave. Time: 7PM – 10PM. Tickets: Free.

Daniel Silva The English Spy – Presented by Books & Books and The Center for Literature & Writing at Miami Dade College, The #1 New York Times bestselling author Daniel Silva will present his latest thriller The English Spy at the Freedom Tower. Featuring some of the most prolific street artists like Jose Mertz, Brian Butler, and Spencer “Mar” Guilburt on the roster, they’ll be going head to head with just a black marker and a blank canvas.
