#PrismPicks: What to Do June 1st – June 15th

June 1, 2015admin

It’s safe to say Miamians have mastered swift temperature changes, leaving the sweltering heat and enter blizzard-like offices only to be welcomed by humidity again. That’s right, summer has finally fallen on the 305 like a pata sucia at Cameo on a Saturday night. But along with our world-famous sizzle, everyone’s favorite vacation season is still hitting the event game hard with interactive panels, art showcases, and of course, more music than your little ears can bear.

Here’s our bi-weekly breakdown:

Thursday, June 4th:

Miami Soul Train + Motown Getdown – Board the metromover for a silent disco ride brought to you by The Arts + Entertainment District and courtesy of Miami-Dade Transit. Three DJs, wireless headphones, and three stops with live bands curated by Buskerfest Miami and The New Tropic. All the while, a Motown Getdown will be popping off at Canvas featuring Tillery James on the decks, Deep Eddy Vodka samples, Purple People Eatery, and 70s themed cocktails by Airstream Apothecary.
Where: Canvas Miami 90 NE 17th ST. Time: 7:00PM – 11:00PM. Tickets: RSVP.

Friday, June 5th:

La Miniteca at The Gang – Bringing back the vintage feels of 70s & 80s Colombian flare, “that restaurant across from Gigi” is elevating the local music intellect with a weekly, all vinyl throwdown featuring native DJs and the best funk, soul, disco, and house beats. There’s no cover all night, so why not start your weekend off here?

Saturday, June 6th:

Imagining Miami – Miami is hosting an “Imagining” this summer as part of a nationwide initiative by the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture that invite community members to envision their towns and cities 20 years into the future, and to spark ideas about how to get there, starting now. The New Tropic will present the most creative community leaders, artists, and characters for a family-friendly day of collaboration. There’ll be food, music, art, and a drum circle to top it all off.

It’ll be live streamed at knightfoundation.org/live, so there’s no reason to miss out!

Arts & Drafts – Honestly, to say that The New Tropic is “killing it” would be pretty much one of the biggest understatements of the year. Their Arts & Drafts series combines live artistry from a curated creative local with some of the best craft brews in the city.
