Present Bakery: A New Gift to Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove is nothing if not one of the friendliest neighborhoods in town. With its oak-lined trees and low-rise shops, it’s easily navigable by anyone — local or otherwise. Somehow though, amidst the evolution, it has still managed to retain much of its unique charm. Seeing so many new changes might seem striking, until you take a stroll through its streets and discover some of the wonderful new businesses that now call it home. Case in point: Present Bakery.

Nestled comfortably along Commodore Plaza, the artisanal coffee shop and bakery fits right in. In just a few short months, it’s managed to feel as though it’s been there forever. In fact, owners Alejandra Pereira and Cesar Jimenez picked this spot because of the surrounding family-friendly atmosphere. The couple have six successful bakeries in their hometown of Medellin and after a long-standing dream of moving to Miami, the two landed on Coconut Grove for their first international outpost.

Home Away From Home.

The rustic and intimate cafe has more to offer than a quaint aesthetic with dried flowers and bakery bags. Everything you fawn over is baked and made fresh in-house, including their flavorful croissants. As self-proclaimed croissant connoisseurs ourselves, we must say that these fluffy creations are among the best in the city. Flavors like Serrano ham and cheese, spinach and feta, sun-dried tomato, and four cheese call your name instantly.

Rows of farmer’s loaves and sweets also wink at you, stacked prominently as you walk inside. The entire ambiance is something out of a Parisian cafe–as warm and welcoming as the owners themselves. You wouldn’t believe that these two masters of design and baking are both self taught in their own right. With a Colombian latte in one hand and a warm croissant in the other, you’ll find yourself the perfect nook to get lost in.

Enjoy the Moment.

And get lost you will. Whether it’s among the folds of a fluffy treat or within the steam of a hot coffee, the bakery reminds you to savor the simple moments in life. Essentially, it urges us all to be well, present. As a whole, Present Bakery champions the art of taking things slowly: baking, mornings, yoga practice, and everything else in between. Like the goods on the counters, everything in life has its own rhythm, its own time to rise.

Officially opened on June 4th, the shop already sees busy mornings bustling with regulars. With such a warm reception from the neighborhood, it’s easy to see that Coconut Grove was in need of its own homegrown bakery to be proud of. Whether you’re popping in for a quick grab or hunkering down to the jazz-crooning background, Present Bakery is right at home and just where it needs to be. Make sure to swing by during September 8th – 10th for their official grand opening and support the wonderful work of such a kind couple!
