If you’ve been to Coconut Grove recently, you’ll have noticed quite a few changes going down in the historical neighborhood. From massive renovations of the beloved Coco Walk to the string of trendy local businesses, the area has transformed from the quaint artisanal corner it once was. But before you begin the huffing and puffing, know that this evolution is bringing some wonderful things to The Grove. Like the new wine cellar and family-friendly joint: Home by Gigi.
Located within the quintessential blue-arched retail along Main Highway, Home by Gigi is in the heart of Coconut Grove. This particular section is buzzing with growth, especially with the addition of a Books & Books branch right next door. Walking along the brick sidewalk, you might not notice the unassuming Mediterranean outpost, but the shelves of wine certainly would catch any vino-drinker’s eye.
An All-Ages Charm.
The space was once a children’s mixed-use retail spot with toys and ice cream to boot. The idea of introducing a food concept for all ages came about, and moved from a to-go outlet to a full-fledged family restaurant. The team from 33 Kitchen was brought in and a full culinary makeover began. After a few structural changes, Home by Gigi has landed on a winning ticket. A counter and happy hour-perfect lounge downstairs, paired with the nitrogen ice cream concept toward the back, with the a full dining room and a breathtaking hall upstairs for the intimate and charming atmosphere you want from The Grove.
33 Kitchen’s Sebastian Fernandez and Leslie Ames Brachowicz have transformed the menu, and brought back the art of simplicity and well-made food. It’s the kind of place you need for locals and residents to feel welcome any time of day or night. The friendly ambiance and consistently solid cooking that makes a restaurant go from “new” to “the usual”. They are even adamant about the menu’s affordability, so everyone can have a seat at their tables.
Comforting Fare for Every Wallet.
The low-key cellar has an impressive selection of grapes from prosecco and rose to deep, velvety reds. We shared their mouth-watering avocado fries over some bubbly, and dove into the savory brussels sprouts with gusto. Their skirt steak is a perfect shared meal, complete with fries and side salad. And we’re still dreaming over the salmon with its creamy cauliflower puree and perfectly cooked asparagus.
Over the coming months, Home by Gigi will be hosting wine tasting and chef dinners to solidify its name as a true culinary outpost. You’ll learn about wine pairing and the art of cooking by some of the very best in town. Whether you’re looking for a good happy hour spot (half-off apps + $6 wines), or just a place to relax after work, Home by Gigi is a perfect option.
