Yet another month of the year has come and gone, and we can’t believe we’re only halfway through summer. While Miami’s afternoon rains and pretty unbearable humidity might get your spirits down, we have a list of ways to get them back up again. Wednesday, August 1st:
Miami Spice 2018 – Miami Spice is a mouth-watering restaurant promotion showcasing the very best of Miami cuisine. Participating restaurants offer three-course meals featuring signature dishes created by world-renowned chefs at reduced prices: Lunch/Brunch $23 and Dinner $39.

Live@Frost Science: Gastropod – Are oysters really an aphrodisiac? Can you hack your taste buds? And why did it take humanity so long to invent the chocolate bar? In this special live performance of the podcast Gastropod, co-hosts Cynthia Graber and Nicola Twilley will serve up a three-course feast for your eyes and ears, including a special guest appearance from Ricardo Trillos, chocolatier at Cao Chocolates, the first and only bean-to-bar chocolate shop in South Florida. From live experiments to interactive tastings, the evening will combine special guests and field recordings to reveal the history and science behind the food we eat every day.

Thursday, August 2nd:
Black Lounge Film Series – An evening of conversation and film, capturing African life, fútbol, culture, identity, and diaspora with acclaimed Nigerian photographer and independent filmmaker Andrew Dosunmu in discussion with Knox Robinson. Dosunmu will share his collaboration with Academy Award-nominated, cinematographer Bradford Young (Relentless City, Mother of George, and Where is Kyra?), and provide perspective on fútbol through his involvement with the 2006 Puma photography book The African Game, and the 2018 Nike film This is Naija: A Nigerian Football Story.

Girls Can Spin Too – (F)empower has put together an 8-week DJ course called Girls Can Spin 2 which has taught 14 girls the basic foundation of song selection and mixing! This Thursday, the girls will graduate from the course and showcase the skills they’ve learned for their family and friends at Floyd.

Friday, August 3rd:
Savasana on the Sand – Surfside’s First Fridays is bringing zen to the beach with yoga and meditation crystal healing sessions, sound bowl demonstrations, mini-spa treatments, salt scrub bar and healthy bites. All-ages drum circle 4:30pm. Complimentary yoga class and mini-massages from 5-7pm by Exhale Spa.

Laser Fridays – On the first and third Friday, rock out with a retro throwback to the classic laser light spectacles you know and love. From Pink Floyd to Daft Punk, they’re fusing music from some of the greatest artists of our time with old-school laser light visuals—all under the Planetarium’s 67-foot dome.

Saturday, August 4th:
Daybreaker MIA – Daybreaker is throwing the very first pool party on the roofdeck at X Miami! On Saturday, August 4th, they’ll be going all out — imagine super soakers, slip and slides, sprinklers, water balloons — all the water works from the good ol days in the Water Park. Morning yoga + dance party with Dude Skywalker.

Summer of Love Fete – Miami DDA, MUCE , Love/Hate Classic Sundays, and Kech This Inc presents the first annual S.O.L Fete Miami. The event will feature Food, Art, Music and Cultural activities for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Swayzepalooza – Seven different P. Swayze IPA releases with collaborations from local breweries. Live music jams kick off at 8pm with Mojo Hands, followed by headliners, Patrick & The Swayzees. The weirdest party in town is happening at The Beard, you know where to be.

SOMA – Moksha Arts Collective will present “SOMA” the drink of immortality, an offering to the gods. A gallery opening of original paintings by selected artists and an exhibition of some of the Moksha symbols. They will be debuting new murals outside. Moksha Virtual gallery will feature a new artist. The back studio will feature a dynamic multi-media showcase and jam with special musical guests from some of Miami’s top bands.

MAS Miami: Volume 2 – Music Art and Sports takes over Revolution Live once again with live music and art, plus tons of activities. Tunes by Miami favorites like Magic City Hippies, Jacuzzi Boys, DJs, live art by LEBO, and your hosts the Le Batard Brothers.

Saturday Gigantic 3rd Anniversary – 3 YEARS of Saturday Gigantic, Miami’s premier comedy night. Your $12 ticket will grant you access to a full night of shows, featuring Tales from The Magic City – Featuring Kareem Tabsch founder of O-Cinema. Miami Noise Machine – An all improvised musical with live band. Five Villain Theater House Teams: “Red Wedding”, ”Plan Bea Arthur”, “The Upside Down”, “Nacho Magic”, “Everyday People”. “Yaaas!” Florida’s only LGBTQIA+ improv comedy team.

FLOAT: An Illuminated Parade at Vizcaya – A one-of-a-kind event in honor of third and final installment of Processional Arts Workshops summer residency at Vizcaya. Join us for FLOAT, an illuminated parade that explore the depths of Vizcaya’s past and present connection to the Sea. Through oversized illuminated lanterns, the parade will illustrate the journey of James Deering, Vizcaya’s founder, from agricultural heartland to untamed seascape while conjuring his vision of Vizcaya as a nautical fantasy.

Brew House Rock – Making beer & tasting it is an art form that they take seriously at Concrete Beach. Every month, they want to share their art work with you by teaching you about beer. Tuesday, August 7th:
Skate Board Park Ribbon Cutting – The municipalities of Bay Harbor Islands, Bal Harbour, Miami Beach, Surfside and Sunny Isles Beach joined together with Miami-Dade County to fund and build the new Regional Skateboard Park on County-owned land in Haulover Park, just north of the Dog Park. The Skateboard Park will be managed by the County and is free for everyone to enjoy.

Thursday, August 9th:
The Doyenne Interactive Pop-Up – Come out for an evening with The Doyenne Company Founders! The Doyenne Company is run by two badass women in business who have made it their mission in to help cultivate and catapult females into leadership positions. They have identifies 12 core values of what we believe develops a badass leader, one of them being ” building genuine connections”.

An Introspective Look at Filmmaker Terence Nance – Black Lounge Film Series presents an introspective look into filmmaker, Terence Nance merging the Art and Film World together in a night of conversation and Film on Friday, August 10th at 7pm at Art Africa Miami in Overtown. National Day of Civic Hacking – Join Code for Miami for the 6th annual National Day of Civic Hacking, and help us #HackForChange! Government works best when it’s government by the People. On August 11th, join Code for Miami and the Code for America Brigades as they host National Day of Civic Hacking – a nationwide day of action.

Free Family Fun Day: Dig Into History – Connect with our city’s unique past as you step into the shoes of a history detective with our scavenger hunt. Meet Julia Tuttle, Henry Flagler, and other great historical figures as our educators bring history to life with a 2PM tour of our permanent exhibition Tropical Dreams: A People’s History of South Florida. The tour will highlight significant moments in our city’s rich history.

Miami’s Biggest Comic Book Store Event – Multiverse Corps. Comics is now 1 year old. Guest artists, guest cosplayers, comic book discounts, and a full day of celebrations.

Art Cortex Photo Workshop – The next photography workshop will take place at the beautiful Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science! This time the focus is on structure, lighting and indoor photography. Architecture is a visual art, with so much design and thought behind each building we want you to put your creative eye to the test by exploring our individual points of views.

Bomba Estereo – The Latin GRAMMY-winning electro-pop crew is in Miami all the way from Colombia. This is definitely a can’t-miss show.

Sunday, August 12th:
South Beach & Art Deco Walking Tour – Take a walk with HistoryMiami Museum’s Resident Historian, Dr. Paul George, through one of our city’s most exciting and attractive neighborhoods, South Beach’s Art Deco District. You will hear the stories of how this area, once strictly farmland, was transformed by the land boom of the 1920’s and again by the hurricane of 1926. Learn how the architectural revolution of the 1930’s defined this neighborhood as a lively vacation destination, only to be turned into a retirement community in the 1950’s and 60’s, and back into the major entertainment destination that we see today.

My Fair Lady 4K Restoration – To Shaw’s story of a wealthy professor who resolves to transform a poor flower girl into a society lady on a bet, director George Cukor brought a delicate touch, a vast reserve of empathy, and a perfect measure of devilish wit. Then there’s the cast, led by Rex Harrison (in an incredibly refined performance) and Audrey Hepburn, whose natural charm never obscures her heroine’s strength, tenacity, and fierce force of will. The film won eight Oscars, including Cecil Beaton’s two (Art Direction, Costume Design) and Cukor’s first for Best Director. It remains one of his most beloved works: a fitting swan song for the Hollywood musical, and a delightful, eternally relevant film in its own right. 4K restoration.

Campaign Squad – Join Ruth List Miami’s Campaign Squad launch party from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday Aug. 15 at Gramps. They’ll be joined by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava and candidate for State Representative District 103, Cindy Polo.
