The Big Quiet Comes to Okeechobee Fest
February 15, 2018
In today’s bustling modern word, complete with its infinite distractions, we know it’s seemingly impossible to disconnect. Now, imagine just how distracting a music festival is and kick that bustle-factor up a notch. One of the things we love most about Okeechobee Music Festival is its dedication to balancing the rage with the relaxation. It’s exactly what their Yogachobee compound is all about and today they just announce something big: The Big Quiet.
That’s right, the New York-based modern meditation movement is taking their zen-spective to Okeechobee. In case you haven’t heard of them, they’ve brought thousands of people to places like Central Park or Madison Square Garden to, well, be quiet. To shut their eyes and look inward, in the company of some other several thousand like-minded individuals. And just like the Florida music festival, they’re making an even bigger wave this year by planning a meditation right at peak dancing time.
They announce today that they’re partnering with The Big Quiet to create the largest sound meditation ever at a music festival main stage. The meditation will feature collaborative performances by Arcade Fire’s Sarah Neufeld, Local Natives’ Taylor Rice 7 Kelcey Ayer, SOFI TUKKER’s Sophie Hawley-Weld and over 20 students from the Frost School of Music Choir. The entire audience will be invited to participate in interactive ways — using collective breath, voice and silence to create a powerful moment of connection with thousands of people.
