January 21, 2018
Girl power is the theme for our three music picks this week. Some of our favorite emerging talent in the music industry to check out. Add them onto playlists and freshen up your daily list of tunes:
Taking cues from the soft pop styles of the 80s and 60s, Léon has emerged as an indie pop darling in the music world. Hailing from Sweden and coming from a family of musicians, her music is a fusion of genres. Some songs use subtle electro-pop beats while others dive deep into gritty soul. Each one having her incredible vocals just exploding through.
Having been called a mix of “Erykah Badu and easy Little Dragon,” Ravyn Lenae is part of the future of R&B that is currently on the up and up. She uses R&B sounds and vocals, combining it with electronic and hip-hop as her signature sound. Her latest track “Sticky” was named Pitchfork’s “Best New Track” and her latest album is set to be released this month.
British singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lianne La Havas has been acclaimed for her folk R&B style for a while, centered around her incredible guitar playing and vocals. Lianne’s music has been recognized by artists like Coldplay, who she opened up for during their A Head Full of Dreams Tour. Even Prince himself who she sang backup for. Hopefully we can expect some new music from her soon.
