Prism’s Guide to “Restaurant Row”
August 31, 2017
There’s an endless amount of things to see and experience in The City Beautiful, from historical architecture to streams of locally-run small businesses. For one of the oldest areas in the city, Coral Gables has a lot to offer anyone in search of discovering something new. Among the charming neighborhoods and bustling streets is a caravan of some of Miami’s most authentic and delicious eats, all lined together for your convenience. We know it as Giralda, but they’ve coined it: Restaurant Row.
Before swinging by on September 15th for the Giralda Plaza Grand Opening, here’s a guide of what you can smell and taste, and when you should get it. All of these spots are open throughout the day and night, but here are our suggested times to experience them at their peak:
Pasion Del Cielo – You might find some of these around the city, but it still is a Miami-based coffee chain and we’re okay with that. It’s friendly and inviting, and offers a robust menu of roasts from all over the world.
Threefold Café – If you’re looking for a morning pick-me-up with the kind of fresh, light-filled feel of Brooklyn or San Francisco, this is where it’s at. Not only are they serious tea and coffee connoisseurs, but their avocado toast is famous around the city.
Green Life – Although their menu can be enjoyed anytime throughout the day, they do offer some of the freshest and healthiest (and even vegan-friendly) breakfast options in Downtown Coral Gables. Their acai bowls are spectacular, and we wash them down with cold-pressed juices.
Lorenzos Pizzas – One of the newest outposts along Restaurant Row, this is one delicious pizza spot. Although it’s hard to make a bad pizza, these guys definitely have it right. Not only are their slices oozing with flavor and fresh ingredients, but their atmosphere will keep you long after the pie is gone.
Ikura Sushi – Although all of these lunch suggestions are also open for dinner, these are our suggestions for when to get the most out of the delicious eateries like this one. It’s simple and unassuming, setting a perfect stage for their succulent sushi and flavorful plates.
PokeBao – Another relatively new spot along Giralda, you’ll love the inventive fusion menu here. You’ve got all of the trendy dishes under one roof here, from fresh poké to fluffy and delicious bao buns. It’s clean and full of light, and they’ve already made a great name for themselves in the neighborhood.
Divino Ceviche – Another local chain getting it right. With a second location in Doral, this authentic Peruvian culinary outpost is pouring out flavor by the bowl. It’s traditional yet still very modern and their ceviche is one of the best around.
Rice Mediterranean Kitchen – If you’re a fan of Rice House of Kabob, you’ll definitely need to try their newest concept which takes the build-a-bowl idea up several notches. More flavors, more fresh ingredients, and a whole lot of options, they’ve turned fast-casual on its head and we’re so happy for it.
The Local – One of the trendier (and cozier) spots on Giralda, this one’s been a staple from the very first day it opened. Craft food and an endless selection of craft beers makes it a must-try along the Plaza. Every dish is more sumptuous than the last at this gastro outpost, but we urge you to save room for dessert, you won’t be sorry.
Miss Saigon Bistro – Although Miami as a whole might have a shortage of authentic cuisine from around the world, Giralda has relatively everything, even Vietnamese. This one’s been serving real food from the tropical homeland for years, with regulars and newcomers coming back every night.
Bangkok Bangkok – Another genuine South East Asian locale, here you can even sit on floor pillows like the locals. Transport yourself to Thailand and have some of the best pad thai in the city. This is a perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion and believe us, you won’t want to leave.
La Dorada – If you’re looking for something more high-end or a place to take your family for a nice dinner, this is your spot. It will take you across the ocean to the Spanish Mediterranean coast where fresh seafood and a great time is guaranteed. After a bottle (or two) you’ll feel like you’re actually in Andalucia.
Talavera Cocina Mexicana – If you want a more high-end approach to Mexican fare, this one’s one of our favorites. From the same team who brought you Coconut Grove’s Jaguar and Peacock Garden Café, here you’ll enjoy an elevated take on authentic street food. Make sure to also keep this spot in mind when searching for a good place to Brunch.
Spritz Pizzeria – Although this one isn’t technically on Giralda, it’s been a pseudo family member for a while. Their pizza and restaurant are perfect for lunch but we like the evening when the street crowds are a little more calm. They venture over onto the plaza when events happen, so make sure to enjoy a fresh slice when you can.
The Bar – A classic place to hang with friends after work and deep into the night, it also offers a great menu of go-to dishes. But we come here to let loose and dance to some of our favorite hits all night long. It’s dark and has just the right about of history, it’s perfect for a night out.
