Indie duo Deaf Poets is comprised of Sean Wouters – the Guitarist-main vocalist-songwriter-producer-lyricist-gear collector – and Nico Espinosa, drummer-backup vocalist- songwriter-producer-sound engineer- lyricist-basketball and soccer enthusiast. The band has been a prominent figure on the Miami music scene, having been a staple at a myriad of Miami music venues and III Points. The group has just released Lost in Magic City, an ode to their hometown.

“The city offers more than what’s seen on the surface,” emphasized Espinosa. “There’s a huge music and art scene that is worth looking into. When we are on the road, a lot of people don’t think that there’s a rock scene here and they seem very surprised when we tell them we are from Miami. There’s more here than just beaches and nightclubs, you just have to know where to look.” When they’re not on tour or recording, you can catch the band at any of these spots once they’re back home:

South Pointe– This park, located on South Beach, is definitely a locals favorite. Between the pier and the beaches, it’s a perfect spot to disconnect for a while. “South Pointe has become my go to place to ride my bike and sit by the water – especially at night,” explained Espinosa.

Tie: Versailles or Latin America – Head down to 8th street or Westchester for a bite. “Nothing says Miami more than authentic Cuban food,” said Wouters. “It’s crazy-good, fast and won’t break your pocket!”

American Airlines Arena – A necessity for any Heat fan. “The times I get to go to the arena, it feels like home,” said Espinosa. Not only is the AAA the home of the Heat, it’s also an amazing spot to catch your favorite band in town.

Key Biscayne – “Key Biscayne has the sickest abandoned zoo that’s now a botanical garden called Crandon Park. It’s crazy legit and right next to the beach. Perfect to chill with friends or take a date,” advised Wouters. “Fun fact: we actually filmed an acoustic series a few years back with Canada based video blog Southern Souls.”

You can catch Deaf Poets on tour with their friend Peyote Coyote, another South Florida band. Check out their next tour dates here.
