We don’t hear much about all the music that is happening in New Zealand but indie-soul singer Louis Baker is definitely trying to change that. With an inarguably compelling voice and deep musical prowess, Baker has molded his work to fit his own style, which garnered him a worldwide following.

Inspired by vintage sounds, Baker has used his crooner-inspired ways to blend the old and the modern and create his soulful, R&B music. Using a tight band with a funky rhythm to back him up, he blends layers of sounds that take you back to the Motown era we all know and love. Throw in his guitar and voice and everything else falls seamlessly into place.

Since the very beginning, his talent for music and song has not gone without notice. In 2013, Baker was selected to attend the highly coveted Red Bull Music Academy to showcase his craft. He then went on to London to record his self-titled EP, which debuted at #3 on the New Zealand album chart. Baker’s music has brought him to all parts of the world playing venues and festivals throughout.

Baker has continued to create music, last year releasing different and equally as alluring singles, gracing his fans earlier this year with his new single “Addict.” With a wide vocal range and expanding approach to music, he is definitely someone to keep an eye out for.

Have a listen to “Addict” and make sure to keep tabs on upcoming releases.
