In between the rains and sweaty weather, Miami still knows how to make the best of what it’s got going on–and what it has is absolutely awesome (if we may say so ourselves). Local creatives and innovative collectives are making sure the city’s culture doesn’t skip a beat in this heat and these next few weeks are a great testament to that prowess. Take a look at what Miami’s got going on:
Sunday, July 16th:
Deering Discovery Day – Enjoy a day of family fun at the Deering Estate with hands-on science activities, site orientations, canoe tours (for an additional fee) and more! Admission is only $1.00 for ages 4 & older.

Tiago Ioric at The Bandshell – Rhythm Foundation has a long history of introducing great Brazilian artists to South Florida. Brazil’s newest sensation, Tiago Iorc‘s mix of Brazilian pop and indie-folk has earned praise from fans and critics, two Latin GRAMMYs nominations and featured songs on popular Brazilian novelas.

Tuesday, July 18th:
Sofia Coppola: This Woman’s Work – On May 2017, Sofia Coppola became the second woman to win the Best Director prize in the 70-year history of the Cannes Film Festival. Over the past two decades, Coppola has proven to be a strong feminine voice in a male-dominated industry. Gables Cinema Associate Director Javier Chavez will moderate a panel discussion that will explore Coppola’s career and the themes in her work, with a focus on her newest film, The Beguiled.

Wednesday, July 19th:
The Citadel x Support Local Mixer: Creativity – Support Local is taking over MADE at The Citadel, one of the city’s most vibrant co-working spaces, for an evening of conversation and exploration. Meet the people behind the growth of the area, jam to tunes by local badass Itawe Correa (of Locos Por Juana), nibble on grub by some of The Citadel’s upcoming tenants, and sip on some handmade drinks by Mac’s Pubs to ease the chats.

KREL Luau Resort Fashion Presentation – KRELwear, a locally-based collection of handmade tropical knits, takes over the Freehand hotel with a Hawaiian hukilau on July 19, from 6-9 p.m., during the annual Miami Swim Week. Founder and designer Karelle Levy will present her new resort pieces inspired by retro Hawaiian pop culture.

Thursday, July 20th:
PAMM Third Thursdays – A Havana Nights-themed evening, featuring a live performance by Latin Grammy award-winning musician Jorge Moreno and DJ set by Mr. Pauer. On the terrace, sip on tasty cocktails from the waterfront bar or dine at Verde, and join in on exhibition inspired art-making. In the galleries, be sure to catch new exhibitions “On the Horizon: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection” and “Spots, Dots, Pips, Tiles: An Exhibition About Dominoes.”

Manu Manzo at Floyd Miami – Manu Manzo is a singer/ Songwriter born in Venezuela & raised in Miami. She started singing very young as well as acting and dancing. She grew up listening to jazz and latin music at home with her family. Artists like Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Amy Winehouse, Sarah Vaughn, Celia Cruz, Alejandro Sanz, as well as artists and groups from her native country Venezuela who have influenced her in her compositions with their their flavor & soul.

JUke Live Album Recording – Come get down with Juke at the lovely Wynwood Yard as we record “JUke live at The Yard” a live album and video shoot showing what Wynwood Yard and JUke have to offer. JUke will be recording a live album and video and we need our friends fans of the Yard to participate as we create a live album and a promo video for The Yard and JUke.

March for Public Education Rally – The Miami, Broward and WPB Chapters of Women’s March Florida are thrilled to join with The March for Public Education National organizers for a Tri-County rally/community event in support of Public Education! At this time, our public education is facing a financial crisis that is unprecedented in our history.

Comunité: Electric Pickle – Mexico based festival/label Comunité takes over Miami’s Electric Pickle for a night featuring 3 local exposés: co-founder/curator Wuuan, Mexico City selector Josep, & Monterrey’s Leo Leal. An all in-house showcase will host an extended odyssey of the gathering’s signature sound. Doors open at 23:00 and there’s a free entrance before 00:00 with RSVP. Plan ahead.

Swim Week BBQ with More or Less – They’re keeping the tradition going and throwing the 4th annual Shaker Sunday Swim Week BBQ. Wear your new swimwear you picked up during Swim Week and come hang poolside! They’ll have Sun Bum Sunscreen giving away some goodies and Peroni Nastro Azzurro specials all afternoon! Global Gluttony Paella Party – A monthly food series with Dade County Food Group LLC (DCFG) and Sweet Melody Crafted Ice Cream Co. called #GlobalGluttony. Classic Album Sunday: Kraftwerk + Aphex Twin – Started in the UK in 2010, every month Classic Album Sundays HQ selects a seminal album and listening parties are held in cities around the world utilizing audiophile-quality equipment. July’s album of the month is Kraftwerk’s 1977 LP Trans-Europe Express. As a special treat they’ll be warming up with a playback of Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works 85-92! First needle drops at 5:15 sharp.

Monday, July 24th:
Civic 101 | Miami Civic Series Kickoff – Join Code for Miami as they kickoff the Miami Civic Series with special guest, Maggie Fernandez, the President & Chief Problem Solver of Sustainable Miami, a group that works with businesses, non-profits, non-governmental organizations and community advocacy groups to ensure they’re promoting positive social and environmental change. In this session, we’ll learn about the history behind Miami, what’s lead to some interesting legislation, and how you can do your part to enact change.

Tuesday, July 25th:
Matthea Harvey and Rob Casper – O, Miami director P. Scott Cunningham leads a discussion with Casper, the current head of the Poetry and Literature Center at the Library of Congress, about the state of poetry in America, the process for selecting the Poet Laureate of the United States, and the role of publishing in contemporary culture. The talk is followed by a reading by award-winning poet Matthea Harvey. A reception will follow the reading.

Summer Sweat: Tropical Vinyasa – Lincoln Road, in partnership with Stay Fit 305, invites you to the Summer Sweats program! Wednesdays mean Wellness on Lincoln Road beginning June 7 through July 26. Black Audio Film Collective at PAMM – Black Audio Film Collective at PAMM presents a selection of films characterized by an interest in the diasporic African experience, memory, and new modes of representation. This evening, PAMM will screen Seven Songs for Malcolm X (1993) by John Akomfrah, and the film will be introduced by Alessandra Raengo, PhD, Associate Professor, Moving Image Studies, Georgia State University.

Reservoir Dogs 35mm – 25 years ago, Quentin Tarantino unleashed a world of trunk shots, non-linear narrative, hyper violence, and profuse profanity on unsuspecting audiences with Reservoir Dogs. Now, a brand new 35mm print that premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival – where the film had its original premiere – is traveling the country and making a pit stop in Miami.

Saturday, July 29th:
Allapattah Upgrade Weekend – The Allapattah community comes together to upgrade the outdoor space of Allapattah Library and create the Storytelling Garden. Teams will condition grass and foliage, and contribute to landscaping work. Children and families will sow native plants, beautify surrounding area, create seating, assemble the stage and chalk wall, among other projects. Food and a free Tshirt will be provided for all volunteers registered by July 25th.

Supercon 2017 – Supercon is the LARGEST Comic Con in South Florida. Adopt A Pup at Space Terrace – They’re pushing the envelope even further by transforming the Terrace into a PUPPY PLAYGROUND! The Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department will be bringing a group of abandoned dogs that need our help. Join Space for a day at the Terrace with bites from some of your favorite Miami spots, cold-press juices, and a beautiful time for pups in need of a caring home. Come play with them, snuggle with them, and fall in love with them.

Disco Frisbee & Late Happy Hour – Boogie over to the beach on 27th Street. As the sun sets, get lit up for Disco Frisbee! What Is Disco Frisbee?! A Glowing Game of Ultimate Frisbee. However, the ultimate part gets funkified. Less rules. More Fun… k!? Lots & Lots of LED neon. After being beachside return to Freehand & 27 Restaurant & Bar for a Late-Happy Hour with food and drink specials. AKA rain or [moon]shine!

Monday, July 31st:
Grilling USA BBQ Dinner – National Grilling Month comes to a close for a four course dinner highlighting different styles of American BBQ. We’ll highlight Texas, Carolina, Kansas City BBQ and more. And of course They’ll have some beers paired perfectly with the BBQ.
