No matter how hard you don’t want to believe it or are fighting against it, Miami is changing. For many of us working hard to ensure that the city’s future is bright, we think it’s transforming for the better–even if it may be a little slow at that. One way to physically witness the metamorphosis is by going out and experiencing the culture in your own backyard. You can discover some fun times on your own, or pass by any of the events we’ve worked hard to produce, promote, and support ourselves. Check em out:
Wednesday, April 5th:
Moonlight Grooves – Carioca Edition
After a magical Moonlight Grooves jam last month at Canvas Miami, The A+E is taking this one to Brasil for the very special 15th Anniversary celebration of the Cafe Brasil Radio Show on WDNA RADIO. Their backyard will be transformed into the streets of Rio, bouncing with the sounds of Brasil’s finest. Jam to a sizzling opening set all leading to a powerful live performance from Batuke Samba Funk. Ace Props will set the tone with some new digs, Acme Lounge will serve the sips and bites, plus some Miami favorites join the party. Make sure to RSVP.
Saturday, April 8th:
Kid Koala’s Nufonia Must Fall
Part film, part puppetry, part live music, and 100% award-winning storytelling, Nufonia Must Fall is a multidisciplinary performance piece created by internationally renowned Canadian DJ and musician Kid Koala and directed by K.K. Barrett (oscar nominated production designer of Her, Lost In Translation, Being John Malkovich). Get your tickets here.
Wednesday, April 12th:
Rooftop Unplugged ft. Alex Di Leo
Join The A+E as magic washes over the city skyline at the Filling Station Lofts for the crowd-favorite concert, Rooftop Unplugged Sessions. Take in an intimate performance by Miami’s own rockstar, Alex Di Leo Music. Enjoy handmade sips to drink in the soothing sounds and breathtaking views of the city. RSVP Required as space is limited. Please arrive on time.
Thursday, April 13th – 15th:
Nu Deco Ensemble ft. Magda Giannikou (Banda Magda)
Nu Deco’s second season at the Light Box comes to a close with a night of celebration featuring the world premiere of a new piece by Chris Rogerson, the iconic “Son of Chamber Symphony” by American Composer John Adams, and a very special tribute to the late, great, Prince. The show’s special collaboration features Magda Giannikou, the virtusoso multi-instrumentalist and composer/orchestrator of the group Banda Magda. Wednesday, April 19th:
Hennessy VSOP Privilege & Veuve Clicquot Rich Present: Queen of Hearts
It’s time to celebrate the badass women who have put their hearts and souls on the stage for all the world to hear! Join us for Queen of Hearts presented by Hennessy and Veuve Clicquot at The Wynwood Yard. Take in the sounds of Latin music’s powerhouse females to ring in the Billboard Latin Music Awards at an intimate jam that everyone can enjoy. Miami’s own power woman, Yoli Mayor opens the night up followed by the Latin GRAMMY-nominated Puerto Rican-born local favorite, Raquel Sofia. We then welcome special guests Diana Fuentes all the way from Cuba, and Flor de Toloache – Mariachi Femenino, the first and only established all-female mariachi band founded in NYC. Free with RSVP.
Saturday, April 22nd:
SoundWaves at Marina PARC
Spend the day on Virginia Key getting wavy with live performances by local heavy-hitters like Colombian-reggae fusion legends, Locos Por Juana, and enjoy more sets by local favorites to be announced. Party into the sunset with epic handmade drinks and craft beers, local grub infused with surf-style flavors, and the best kind of vibes you want at a breezy Saturday overlooking the Downtown Skyline on the bay. Pop-up vendors, bayside hangs, and a friendly spring atmosphere await you where you least expect it. The event is free and open to the community, RSVP is required.
Sunday, April 23rd:
The Miami Flea
Swing by and enjoy the local community with pop-ups galore. Ride your bike or take transit, and make sure to stop by the kid’s corner by Little Creative Souls for some creative crafts, and face painting. We’ll have workshops, one-of-a-kind gifts, and brand new vendors. Check out the amazing creations by local artisans, adopt a puppy, or get your hands henna-fied. There will be vintage treasures, vinyl, and more thrift finds that ever before. Find out more here.
Friday, April 28th:
Nu Deco Ensemble x Decadancetheatre
Presented by the Adrienne Arsht Center, Nu Deco Ensemble’s season finale is a unique collaboration with Brooklyn based hip-hop crew, Decadancetheater, featuring a new Arsht Center Commission created by Sam Hyken and choreographer Jennifer Weber entitled “4”- A genre-bending reimagining of Vivaldi’s masterpiece Four Seasons created for Nu Deco Ensemble and Decadancetheater.
