Press Play: Satellite Mode

What do you get when you put together the minds of two classically trained musicians from New York? You actually get electronic duo Satellite Mode, who formed to create music that was honest and told a story in their own unique way.

Comprised of Jess Carvo and Alex Marko and were previously known as Aeroplane Mode, the pair have developed a unique electronic style with deep synths and booming beats that are layered with the flowing sound of Carvo’s smooth voice. To me, they remind me somewhat of electro-pop trio CHVRCHES.

The basis for a lot of their music comes from Carvo suffering from a tremendous tragedy in her family. They took this and used it to make their music have more depth and meaning as a means to deal with the many trials of life.

Satellite Mode has been releasing songs since they were founded only a little over a year ago, with each one bringing something fresh and new while still keeping to their unique style. Their latest single, “Warm Fire Lighting”, has a playful pop-electronic sound but with the accompaniment of powerful, uplifting lyrics. Have a listen for yourself and be sure to check out the rest of their music as well. This duo is definitely a shouldn’t-miss if they are in your area and I’m curious to see when we can expect a full-length album or EP from them.
