The Wynwood Yard Turns 1 Year Old!

November 4, 2016admin

Because Miami has been crowned a transient, tourist-led city, not very often are roots laid down and grown. That has changed significantly over the past few years, where community and authentic connection have overthrown exclusivity and luxury out of the “cool” seat. Luckily for us, this recent creative renaissance has brought in some incredible concepts, those that include everyone and share their joy with us all, those like The Wynwood Yard.

For almost a year now, The Wynwood Yard has become a home for local artists of all shapes and sizes, where each one is welcome at any time. Lovingly now called “The Yard”, the outdoor hang is much more than its location, it encompasses the entire city and beyond. This past year has seen a lot of growth and some difficult times for the now-beloved spot, but through it all, it has always supported its community no matter what. So now it’s time to shower that support right back.

On November 17th, The Wynwood Yard will celebrate its first birthday and we couldn’t be more excited to help ring in the special occasion. The party will be more of an homage to The Yard’s incessant platform for local musicians, so make sure to come by and catch nearly a dozen artists play tunes as a thank you for their support. Plus, there’s no real party without a Latin funk jam by Xperimento. There will be pop-up surprises all around the garden, like henna, tarot reading, live poetry, and even a wishing tree where you can hang your happiest wishes for The Yard to sparkle for all to see.

Just like any birthday, the outdoor incubator is undergoing some physical growth and changes we just can’t wait for. After expanding to reach all the way to O, Cinema, The Wynwood Yard will now welcome its first full-service restaurant and Miami’s first shipping container eatery: Charcoal. That’s not all! Their lush garden will now expand to twice its former glory and will feature a community harvest table, workshops, cooking classes, farm-to-table dinners, urban farming, and more all thanks to Little River Cooperative! Plus, explore the multiple new food concepts, see the WYNbox, and sip on your favorite cocktails and craft brews by The Bar at The Yard.

But it wouldn’t be a real birthday without lasting a whole weekend, right? The party doesn’t just take place on Thursday, they’ve got tons of surprises all weekend long. Friday will be the inaugural Taste of The Yard, their newest food-tasting program, and a special edition of Shabbat at The Yard all with live tunes by Miami’s jazz masters, Lemon City Trio. Saturday kicks the fiesta up a knotch with a happy hour with JUke, a rocking jam by Aura the Band, and a very special performance by the folk-electro trio, Blue Jay. And it all comes down on Sunday for one of their biggest Reggae Sundays yet.
