Does anyone else feel the positive vibes filling the air lately? The weather has been showing off and frankly, we’re not complaining if this is setting the tone for the rest of the season. As the skies stay blue and piercing, the cultural inspiration keeps flowing at an invigorating rate. More and more outdoor events are popping up, people are taking advantage of what this city has to offer, and the caliber of fun happenings is climbing towards a remarkable peak.

We of all people know how hard it is to leave your couch bae behind to put in effort to go out, but Miami’s culture game is getting stronger by the second and it definitely can’t be missed. Check out our top picks of exciting discoveries and celebrations to be had over the next two weeks:

Saturday, April 16th:

Sweat’s Record Store Day – Headlining this year’s main stage at Churchill’s is none other than SHABAZZ PALACES. That’s right, a FREE, ALL-AGES show with one of the most exciting and experimental duos in hip hop, featuring Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler of Digable Planets and multi-instrumentalist Tendai Maraire. Their excellent albums “Black Up” and “Lese Majesty” have been top sellers at Sweat. Doors open at 8am for the Record Store Day exclusives. Starting at 7am DJ LE SPAM will serenade the line-waiters with a vinyl DJ set from his tricked out WV Sound Bus! Tunes all day will feature: PARTY FLAG, BLEUBIRD, EONS and more locals, but grub by food trucks more.

Caetano Veloso & Gilberto Gil – Two friends, one century of music together. Caetano and Gil last year celebrated the 50th anniversary of their friendship and musical careers. They met by chance in Salvador, Bahia, and have been close friends ever since, creating the Tropicalia soundtrack for Brazil and beyond. The admiration they have for each other made it hard for them to choose a set list for this special tour. And now they come to Miami – just two friends and their guitars, and a lifetime of music that helped changed the world.

Sunday, April 17th:

Morningside Historic Home Tour – You’re invited to explore The First historic District of Miami and spend time inside some of Miami’s greatest residential gems! Guests will begin the tour from the parking point at Boulevard 57 (57th & Biscayne) and trolley service to the event entrance located at 56th and 6th Ave. After picking up your tickets and map, you’ll enjoy an intimate self-guided home tour. Free Yoga with Afrobeta – Spend your Sunday afternoon with one of Miami’s nicest and funnest duos around, Afrobeta! Take a rejuvenating yoga class with Cuci while Tony (the man behind the afro) spins for a musical session. Knowing these two, there will definitely be a post-class jam.

Wednesday, April 20th:

The Miami 420 Fest – Massive Ideas and Churchill’s Pub are bringing in a local jam on this high holiday hosted by the one and only Notorious Nastie. Musical lineup includes Bachaco, Otto Von Schirach, KMG ft. KJ Marley & Stro Marley, and many more. Plus, tons of food, pop-ups, artisan vendors, and unlimited treasures.

Bubbles & Bud – Bardot presents this great holiday celebration on the live carpet we all love. It’s an all-vinyl occasion so bring your own vinyl & play it on their turntables from 10pm – midnight. Will Buck and Mr.Brown will be playing straight wax for the rest of the evening. Plus, enjoy drink specials like $50 bottles of champagne & $10 Shot + Beer combos.

Thursday, April 21st:

PAMM Third Thursday
One of the best views in the city is back with their monthly getdown. Enjoy the sounds of Mr Pauer. Purchase happy hour drink and food specials or make reservations at Verde restaurant, and partake in art-making for prizes. Rooftop Unplugged Sessions – The crowd-favorite Rooftop Unplugged Sessions are back with A+E’s third installment of the season. Swing by The Filling Station Lofts pool deck for an awe-inspiring view of the A+E District while we are dazed as the Latin GRAMMY-nominated, Raquel Sofia takes the stage for a live performance you won’t want to miss. Friday, April 22nd:

Wynwood Life: Art/Music/Food/Fashion – Check out all the great features of the festival like the Back Alley where top street artists are painting live daily. Listen to any one of 20 bands at their Live Music Stage. Or visit the Art House pop-up gallery curated by Wynwood’s Finest. The Style Lounge & Runway is where all the fashionistas will hang. And if you fancy the culinary arts, the Wynwood Culinary Showcase is the place to be. You and your crew can peruse over 150 arts & crafts vendors or eat at one of South Florida’s top food trucks.

Full Moon Drum Circle – Come ride with the Miami Nights fam to the Full Moon Drum Circle on Miami Beach. Drum circle is a public event hosted at North Shore Open Space Park. Saturday, April 23rd:

Crate Diggers Miami Record Fair – Following the success of Record Store Day, Gramps is hosting another celebration of the musical form the succeeding weekend. You’ll find some of the best records from dealers / collectors in Miami. You can also wiggle while you dig. Music from some of the best Miami Dj’s will provide the backdrop for you digging pleasure.

Manna Life Food Grand Opening + Earth Day Celebration – You and a guest are invited to come savor “food from heaven” and celebrate Earth Day and the opening of Miami’s most anticipated new plant-based eatery. The Mahler Legacy WALLCAST – Join NWS’ celebration of Earth Month at the second-to-last WALLCAST™ of the season: The Mahler Legacy: The Song of the Earth WALLCAST™ Concert, presented by Citi. MTT returns to offer his unrivaled interpretation of Mahler that has earned him six of his eleven Grammy Awards. Penned during the most despondent time in Mahler’s life, The Song of the Earth is a personal reflection of his pain and relentless reminiscing, giving voice to his loneliness and surrendering to mortality. Sunday, April 24th:

The Miami Flea – A+E’s communal take on a flea market revolves around a social atmosphere where groups of artisans can network and collaborate with local coffee and beverage shops, restaurants, entrepreneurs and every creative soul in the city. Junior & Hatter will have their braid bar for style, along with The Head & Heart barber studio’s buzz cuts for men. Make sure to stop by the kid’s corner by Little Creative Souls for some creative crafts, and face painting. Moonlighter Makerspace will also be on-site conducting hands-on workshops. Live music by local artists, tons of food by local eateries, and so much more.

Wednesday, April 27th:

O, Miami Readings at Vizcaya – A magical evening of poetry readings in the gardens headlined by National Book Critics Circle Award-winning poet Frank Bidart, who will be reading from his well-known works, including Metaphysical Dog (FSG, 2013). He will be joined by poet Peg Boyers, adjunct professor at Columbia University and executive editor of Salmagundi, reading from To Forget Venice. Guests will be invited to write their own poems and the program will also feature informal readings from FIU Honors College students, sharing their original works inspired by Vizcaya.

Little Shop of Horrors 30th Anniversary – Popcorn Nights, Popcorn Frights Film Festival, and O Cinema are pleased to present a special one-night-only 30th anniversary screening of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (Director’s Cut). This newly restored 2K presentation includes the film’s original 23-minute finale that was not part of the 1986 theatrical release.

Jahzel Dotel Leftovers Album Release – Come sway to the smooth Jazz vocals of Jahzel Dotel with the official unveiling of her debut album, Leftovers. Nu Deco Ensemble ft. Raquel Sofia – Season One of Nu Deco Ensemble concludes at Wynwood’s own Light Box at Goldman Warehouse. Experience the music of Paul Dooley, Andy Akiho, and Jamiroquai with Miami’s Genre bending orchestra. They are pleased to invite composer and percussionist Andy Akiho and Latin Grammy nominated singer/songwriter/musician Raquel Sofia as their guest artists and collaborators for the evening.
