#PressPlay: Lake Street Dive
February 19, 2016
In my opinion, the best way to describe Lake Street Dive is like a delicious hunch punch, once you have a taste you will love it but if I told you what it was made up of you would never believe me. They take a little bit of everything from Rock, Pop, R&B, and Country with a heavy hand on the Jazz and Soul (in the best way). I could listen to Rachel Price sing all day with the amount of soul her voice carries. She possesses the ability to make your heart ache and make you feel like you are walking on sunshine at the same time. Literally, just listen to two tracks and you will understand.
This powerhouse group of musicians was brought together in Boston while studying at The New England Music Conservatory. So have no doubts they know their stuff when it comes to anything and everything music. But they are not the types to take on that classically trained musician stereotype. You know the whole: being stuffy and pretentious deal. They don’t take themselves seriously and their playfulness shines through in every track (and just incase you don’t believe me check out their playful cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”).
So go ahead, find that perfect palm tree to lounge under, get the breeze flowing through your hair, and press play. Lake Street Dive is ready to sooth your soul and put a smile on your face with every note.
