With the current cultural metamorphosis that oozes from every person’s lips, Miami is currently going through a creative boom seemingly larger than those of the baby persuasion, poised to carve out a new path for future generations of brilliant visionaries. It’s a new year and the city is restless, making sure 2016 starts off with a bang…and a jam.

From pre-parties and grand opening celebrations, to outdoor cinema showings for good weather and a friggin’ motel pop-up in Wynwood, these next two weeks are going to have you drooling with FOMO. Take a look at our selects of entertainment and cultural goodness for your jamming pleasure:

Tuesday, January 5th:
Jam Cruise 14 Pre-Party – One of the best music festivals to hit a cruise uses Miami as its portal so, if you can’t make the sold out jam, have a little taste with ALO and Miami’s own funk legend, Roosevelt Collier. DJ Ackdaddy will be on the decks keeping the vibes bumping so swing by an enjoy culinary pop-ups, drinks, and so much more.

Fortify – Enjoy a complimentary power yoga class, lead by Patty Ware in collaboration with Green Monkey Coral Gables. Come ready to sweat and be inspired under the creative roof of MADE. Good vibes, sweet tunes, and a new year to kick off your newest you! Bring a mat and hand towel.

Wednesday, January 6th:

SoundScape Cinema Series – The New World Symphony is back at it with a month of free outdoor film screenings in the famous SoundScape Park at its frontyard. This year’s series kicks off with a screening of The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies. Citi will be providing weekly pre-movie entertainment that may include popcorn, photo booths and musical entertainment.

Thursday, January 7th:

Wooden Wisdom Bardot – Did you know Elijah Wood was a DJ? Yeah, Frodo spins, people! His production project with Zach Cowie is hitting Bardot’s live carpet once again for an unforgettable experience with opening sets by local deckmasters.

Friday, January 8th:

YoungArts Week 2016 Grand Opening – Hailing from all over the country, the most promising young writers will read their work in the fiction, non-fiction, poetry, spoken word, and screenwriting genres as part of National YoungArts Week. YoungArts celebrates its 35th anniversary year with National YoungArts Week, the organization’s signature program welcoming approximately 160 YoungArts Finalists to Miami.

Saturday, January 9th:

Live at the Yard Raquel Sofia – We’re excited to welcome the Latin Grammy-nominated female powerhouse and local favorite, Raquel Sofia on the stage for what will be an electrifying performance with an opening set by Javier Garcia. Escape the craziness of Art Walk and find a place to just hang and meet up with friends, why not listen to great music while you’re at it?

Sunday, January 10th:

Miami Flea – A+E’s fourth Miami Flea will have chill nests, Bookleggers Library, dozens of handmade and vintage treasures, live music by Zoe Fromer, Yoli Mayor, Magic City Hippies, and Tomas Diaz, and a selection of some of the city’s best eateries in the grub garden. New time, new place. Dogs still welcome.

Nu Deco Ensemble Concert Two – Nu Deco Ensemble makes its Deering Estate debut, performing its signature music of genre-bending eclectic styles. This classically trained 21st Century Chamber Orchestra will delight audiences with its unique brand of music in one of South Florida’s most gorgeous historical sights. Program to feature the music of JS Bach, Andy Akiho, Georges Bizet, Aaron Copland, LCD Soundsystem, Sam Hyken, and Daft Punk.

Tuesday, January 12th:

Photo Talk – Natalia Vásquez, local artist/photographer and former professor at Anglo-American University in Prague, will introduce the works of Robert Frank and Roger Ballen. Both photographers are true to psychological experiences, creating powerful images that delve into the shadows of our existence, while expressing hope and humor.

The MOTH: Strict – Prepare a five-minute story about hard-and-fast rules and uptight environments. Early curfews, demanding curriculums and monastic restrictions on your menu of life’s indulgences. Did rigid restrictions cause you to sow wild oats, or did they teach you how to relish the little allowances? Sit and watch these stories come to life and connect to local storytellers.

All Folk’d Up – Churchill’s is holding a tribute at their monthly folk night for the man himself, Neil Young, as the 1-Year Anniversary for All Folk’d Up. Performers include W.D. Miller and the Revolvers, Baby Bear Lo-Fi, Ryan Carney, Bora, Miguel Morte Valentine ,Uncle Scotchy and Turtle Grenade.

Wednesday, January 13th:
Jazz in the Lobby – Join the Miami Jazz & Film Society, The Knight Foundation, and Miami DDA in the lobby for the Big City Blues Band. Come out to meet your Downtown neighbors, have a drink and experience the Olympia like never before. Cocktails available at the bar. Guided tour of the historic Olympia Theater during intermission.

Thursday, January 14th & Friday January 15th:
Jack Daniel’s Motel No. 7 – Let the bright neon and thumping bass lead you to Motel No. 7, where you’ll check in for a night of music and mayhem as Jack Daniel’s pays homage to the madness of life on tour. Wander the motel grounds with dozens of themed rooms, an indoor pool, a roller derby rink, craft donut pop-ups, an on-site hair salon, and of course endless JD on flow. This is going to be that party you’ll seriously FOMO over if you don’t experience yourself.
