Only one word has been on everyone’s mind: Basel. But before we start pulling our collective hairs out in anticipation of that overwhelming week, November still isn’t over and it’s ready to go out with a bang. Tons of community happenings that cater to every pool of intellect are going down just this weekend alone. And aside from Thanksgiving, there’s quite a few things to be grateful for as we near the end of another successful year in the 305.

Wednesday, November 18th:

YoungArts Salon Series: Fab 5 Freddy – YoungArts presents an intimate Salon, sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, with American hip hop pioneer, visual artist and filmmaker Fab 5 Freddy moderated by Alumnus James Allister Sprang (2008 YoungArts Winner in Visual Arts).

Movies & Munchies – Kicking off the Seed Food & Wine Festival week with May I Be Frank, a film about sex, drugs, and transformation followed by a Q&A with Ferrante Frank. The showing will be paired with organic wines, Miyoko Creamery & Heidi Ho cheeses, chocolates and inventive munchies. Grab a bean bag, or chair and chill.

Thursday, November 19th:

Give Miami Day – Join The Miami Foundation and give back to the local arts community for an electrifying, free concert by Suenalo! and community party for the whole family. Explore #GiveMiamiDay nonprofit exhibits and enjoy interactive games, food trucks and fun activities to celebrate the biggest annual giving event in South Florida history.

MOTH: Only in Miami, Literally – The traveling storytelling series, The MOTH comes back to the city for a special Miami Book Fair edition with our city as its theme. Competitors will have 5 minutes to unravel a story that encapsulates Miami at its very core, with audience voting eventually selecting a winner. The event is hosted by Daniella Veras, a local social media maven, and includes grub by local eateries and brews by Biscayne Bay Brewing Company.

Friday, November 20th:

Black Creek Nights: Latin Funk Edition – The South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center is bringing back their crowd-favorite outdoor party this Friday with a special Latin Funk-inspired night. Tunes featuring El Arka, Soi, La Revol, and a DJ set by CHATO!. Enjoy drinks, grub and jam to some of the funkiest tunes in the city.

Saturday, November 21st:

“Choose Your Sound” Benefit Concert – Move your feet to amazing musical performances by the Grammy-nominated Locos Por Juana and Tony Succar, as well as Guitars Over Guns students and alumni. Enjoy a silent auction filled with local memorabilia, Mena Catering bites & desserts by Personally Yours, open bar by Afrohead Rums, Bombay Sapphire, Tito’s Vodka, Lagunita brew, Mosaic Coffee, SomosTV and Voss Water. Ticket sales and event proceeds will go directly toward supporting the GOGO programming and empowering more youth through the arts.

Sunday, November 22nd:

Motown Brunch – Join us for a special Motown Brunch with a sultry live performance by local soul singer, Alejandro Elizondo and his band of talented musicians. Enjoy each food concept’s take on Avocado Toast + more curated eats for all taste buds. Plus, float the Sunday away with drink specials by Thyme featuring: St. Germaine Sparkler, Classic Bloody Mary, and Bellinis, aromatic centerpieces by La Succulenta and more.

Nu Deco Ensemble Concert Two – Nu Deco Ensemble will present “Water Music,” an innovative outdoor concert experience at the Deering Estate featuring the classical and contemporary music of JS Bach, Andy Akiho, Georges Bizet, Aaron Copland, LCD Soundsystem, Sam Hyken, and Daft Punk. Guests are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and small picnic baskets. No coolers are permitted.

Monday, November 23rd:

Photo Talk – Get a glimpse through the lens of these two influential photographers at MADE at The Citadel for an evening of groundbreaking photography. Natalia Vásquez, local artist/photographer and former professor at Anglo-American University in Prague, will introduce the works of Robert Frank and Roger Ballen. Both photographers are true to psychological experiences, creating powerful images that delve into the shadows of our existence, while expressing hope and humor.

Wednesday, November 25th:

The Wynwood Yard Garden Party Grand Opening – After a weather rescheduling, the celebration is back on! Let your mind wander at this delicious meeting of the minds with a special live performance by local Blues legends, JUke and intimate moments of multi-sensory pleasure with Alma Dance Theater. Enjoy hand-made flower crowns on-site, delight in the food concepts featuring: Myumi, della test kitchen, Vibe305, and Arabian Knife with live chef demos, as you sip the craft cocktails and more.

The 13th Annual 80s Prom – The Miami Thanksgiving Eve tradition continues this year at The Electric Pickle, and they’re thirteen now so it’s a Promitzvah! Saturday, November 28th:

A+E 1 Year Anniversary – Join The Arts + Entertainment District in celebrating their first year of creative accomplishments in the urban village they have come to call home, all thanks to you! The evening will feature live performances by Mr. Pauer and Locos Por Juana, a photo gallery featuring the Adobe Photo Jam winner, Max Reed, live art by Blank Canvas winner, Jenny Perez, and the year’s best grub like Cheeseburger Baby, Gaucho Ranch, Vice City Bean, Mad Chiller, and Les Petits Sucres, and organic cocktails.

Bedside Album Release – Bardot and Bedside are bringing a whole lot of tunes and alliterations to this big album release jam. Monday, November 30th:

Fantastical Vizcaya – For its 2015 Contemporary Arts Program (CAP), Vizcaya Museum and Gardens will present a project featuring eleven Miami-based artists who were commissioned to create site-specific, performance-based works from November 30 through December 4, 2015. The artists chosen to exhibit during Fantastical Vizcaya include Dona Altemus, Pip Brant, Amalia Caputo, Cara Despain, Sebastian Duncan Portuondo, Alan Gutierrez, Daniel Milewski, Maritza Molina, Misael Soto and Homo-Sapiens Collab: David Rohn and Danilo de la Torre.
