#PressPlay: Big Wild
October 28, 2015
Preparing for the mystical insanity that will be Hulaween this weekend, I began to do the usual pre-festival routine: shop, clean my car, and put myself onto previously undiscovered music. I like to start with the bottom and work my way up. As I sifted through jam band openers my early rising self has gotten to know well at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park & Campgrounds, I came across a presence otherwise unfelt. Something dark yet full of life, bubbling at the surface ready to explode. My ears pricked, my mouth began to water, and I immediately texted my festival-buddy to get into Big Wild.
A shining gem on ODESZA‘s label, Foreign Family Collective, Big Wild is a production phenom out of Los Angeles, weaving through the wires and into your headphones with ease. His electronic foundations work as a nurturing platform for other genres that inspire both musician and audience. From foreign sounds to hip hop rhythms, these largely instrumental tracks would serve perfectly for a soundtrack on a grandiose scale. Big Wild’s tunes simultaneously flow from swooping and whirling winds, the serenity within a hammock of trees, and the pure joy of celebrating life in the moment. That’s all you ever really need from a solo act.
The beauty of instrumental tracks that pair nicely with ethereal vocals is that they can join your every move and mood. Tune in to some of our favorite releases/mixes and once you fall under his spell, bite the bullet and join us at Hulaween this weekend to catch him live! ODESZA is also headline, btw.
