Vodka. Anastasia. Classic ballet. Overcast days and cold mornings. The colorful spires of St. Petersburg’s cathedral. Those are the things that come to mind when you think of Russia. On a thread of Siberian traditional, it seems like Disco-Pop just doesn’t fit. Until Pompeya came along, that is.
The Moscow-bred band brings a completely unique brand of New Wave to the Pop table with a heavy influence on retro beats that call to mind the late night jams of Disco’s past. The talented musicians took the underground world by storm with the release of their debut LP, Tropical, which then came with a remix LP featuring reworks by Psychemagik, Felix Da Housecat, and more. After collaborating with Brian Mctear (Local Natives, War on Drugs, Twin Sister) on Night back in 2014, the trio joined forces with David Harley of War on Drugs for their latest release, Real that came out earlier this year.
Too many words for one funky band, and the only way to truly understand what we’re saying is to feel the heat down in your soul…in person. Great thing these guys are heading to town on September 3rd as an opener for WhoMadeWho alongside Miami’s very own rockers, Krisp. Take a listen to some of our favorite tunes and make sure to snag your tickets here!
