Press Play: Vacationer
July 16, 2015
The trance-like dream-pop of Vacationer is the perfect music to lounge by the pool to this summer. Each song is packed with some serious vibes that inject each beat with electro-pop. The band started out as a side project in 2011 but has gained popularity recently, being featured on Sirius XM’s Alt Nation and playing some big name festivals this summer.
Vacationer’s inception was so wonderfully spontaneous that it has had an effect on both of their albums. Their original sound on the first album, Gone is hypnotic and similar to Animal Collective, Smallpools, and St. Lucia. The latest album, Relief still harbors that original quirky sound but adds tropical percussion for an added twist. “The Wild life” is my favorite song off the album with its catchy yet relaxed way of listening. The lyrics are about love and exploration, both of which are central themes on Relief.
The band has been busy touring the past two years with Bombay Bicycle Club, Tennis, and The Naked and Famous. Vacationer attributes the constant touring to having a large impact on the new album, lead singer Kenny Vasoli said: “Being out there every night with our wonderful fans and on the road everyday with Matt making beats next to me led to a deeper, more immediate energy in our music.”
If you haven’t heard of them already, be sure to add Vacationer to your list of up-and-coming bands. This band is willing to take risks, which is more of what the industry needs. Sit back, relax, and vibe to some of my favorite songs below:
