#PrismPicks Preview: What So Not on 7/7
July 3, 2015
When we say that Summer is picking up steam, we mean it literally. As the city starts to welcome its least comfortable season, venues become noticeably hotter as well, the sweat rising off dancing bodies mixing in with the heat that escapes indoors. When most people might say it’s hot as a certain pair of male genitalia, we like to compare it to the city’s greatest parties. Like Grand Central for example.
I’ve nearly fainted at a July Dillon Francis show in the past (although that may have been due in part to the gorgeous Moombahton blasting in our ears), and Flume‘s two-show run in June brought on a tsunami of sweat with every drop. But just when we’re finally starting to get over those dizzy spells, Pop Life has announced that the Australian wunderkind will be returning to the downtown venue’s stage on August 7th. But this time, he won’t be alone.
Okay so Flume might actually just be there in spirit as one part of the duo project, What So Not will take the Grand Central stage by storm. Aussie all-star, Emoh Instead is a master at production and all things strategy and he’s taken the What So Not reigns to fuse his skillful musicality with the infectious sounds that are undoubtedly Flume. With chart-topping remixes and slow climaxes that tell stories of faraway lands, the What So Not show is a definite can’t miss.
The forecast: multi-sensory visuals, breakbeat-infused Trap drops, and a whole lot of ethereal vocals. They really do know how to party “down under”.
