#PressPlay: Sylvan Esso
June 29, 2015
In the midst of festival season it’s easy to be overwhelmed with the abundance of new music. There are so many amazing artists to check out this time of year. If you’re looking for a new album to be the soundtrack of your summer, look no further. North Carolina’s duo, Sylvan Esso is taking the world by storm with their first full length Album, “Se.”
Festivals and fans alike can’t get enough of their unique sound. This band sets itself apart from the rest by combining an Appalachian indie folk singer with an electronic producer to create an infectious beat with a twist. Sylvan Esso’s music is considered electro-folk, bringing in a lot of synth and pop elements along with a ton of energy. I would compare them to tUnE-yArDs meets Purity Ring.
After hearing countless recommendations to check them out I finally saw a show and was extremely impressed. Their set at Bonnaroo was one of the highlights of my weekend. Who knew it was possible but Amelia Meath’s voice translates even better on stage. Her voice has this tangible sultry element to it, which perfectly compliments Nick Sanborn’s pop and synth tracks.
These two are quickly making a name for themselves and acquiring plenty of new listeners along the way. I have the album on repeat especially “Hey Mami.” I can’t wait to see all great things this innovative band has in store. Jam to some of our favorite tracks below:
