Although this month might not have an ‘r’ in it, but we’re gladly shucking and sucking the life out of it and this great city we call home. Friday, May 15th:
New Tropic Launch Party – A belated celebration for one of the city’s most innovative and friendly publications, this shindig will have free drinks by Biscayne Bay Brewing Co. and Sailer Jerry + Lemon City Tea, Vibe 305 food truck servings, and tunes by Afrobeta.

Saturday, May 16th:
Roosevelt Collier’s Miami Hometown Getdown – This dude’s sole purpose in life is to “bring the funk to Miami” so anytime you have a chance to catch his tunes, don’t hesitate. Railroad Blues has also set out to sprinkle funk and live jams around the city, so it’s a pretty great pair. Also, a late night set by JUke is in the works.

Sunday, May 17th:
#HIAHLEAHNOW Leah Arts District Unveiling – This is the next burgeoning arts district, this time in Hialeah. A block party with food trucks, free Heineken for the first hour, live art, and over 10 murals being celebrated, the future of all of Miami’s boroughs looks pretty colorful, to say the least.

Wednesday, May 20th:
Freedom Flicks Presents: Concerning Violence – As Baltimore jumps knee deep into the struggle, the Black Lives Matter movement has evolved into the Black Spring. This is the perfect time to watch Concerning Violence – a film combining some of the unseen footage of African liberation movements with Frantz Fanon’s deep analysis on the relationship between violence and resistance.

Saturday, May 23rd:
SwingLAB – South Florida Lindy Collective and The LAB Miami are introducing SwingLAB, a swing dance lesson that’s open to the community. With a one hour dance lesson and then three hours of social footwork, plus a dj set by Babs, you’ll definitely leave here with a few new friends.

Tuesday, May 26th:
The Adobe Photo Jam – The Arts + Entertainment District has teamed up with the geniuses over at Adobe for a night to celebrate and encourage photography. 15 local photographers are given a theme that day, go around town and shoot, and come back to post-process their work. The crowd then decides who’s their favorite! Plus interesting talks by some of the most prolific industry members, free wine, and great tunes.

Thursday, May 28th:
Movies Under the Stars – Miami International Film Festival and A+E team up once again to deliver the city’s best outdoor movie theater. This time, they have Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive on the projector, a dark and flowing whirlwind of a love story between two vampires who’ve stood the test of time and, well, love. Enjoy free wine and delicious bites, plus the great weather.

Saturday, May 30th:
The Maker’s Mart – On the last Saturday of every month, a pop-up market comes to The Little River district with vintage goods, succulents, handmade furniture, local crafts, and good times. Come by for some great finds and stay for the better vibes.

French Kiwi Juice (FKJ) Live set – We can’t even begin to try to tell you how much we love this french producer and DJ. His mixes are a perfect blend of soul, R&B, hip-hop, and funkiness that delivers the sex appeal by the second. Come by Bardot for a very special live set that is sure to drop a few beats and panties along the way.

Sunday, May 31st:
Lazy Brunch BQ – Rounding out the month is The Arts + Entertainment District’s newest event series launch with their Lazy Brunch BQ series. Nurse your hangover with live tunes from local acts: Aura the Band, The Wynwoods, and JUke. Plus, enjoy free beer samples, brunch-themed cocktails by Sailor Jerry, BBQ by Coyo Taco, and a pretty f*cking great Sunday.
