#PrismPicks: Top 15 WMC MMW Parties of 2015
March 20, 2015
For true music fans and Miamians alike, Christmas doesn’t happen in the winter and it’s definitely not covered in lights…okay well, maybe it is. Our holiday season is those 10 beautiful days at the end of March when Ultra pools the frat bros and tourists into one cage while the rest of the city jams to some of the greatest and most prolific artists and producers in the world, sprinkled with the future’s brightest musical minds.
That’s right, WMC and Miami Music Week are finally upon us. And while you may have some tickets and events locked down in your schedule, this is about the time when your vision gets blurry looking at all the great parties going down day and night, 24/7. The great thing is, a lot of the acts are playing multiple times, so you’ll still get to eye f*ck the sh*t out of Seth Troxler. Here’s our picks for the best 15 WMC/MMW events this year:
Tuesday, March 24th:
Mindshake Showcase – Paco Osuna, the great Techno master, continues his Tuesday WMC residency at Trade and brings along a few talented friends and most notably, a live set by the stellar, Matador. This is always one of the best WMC parties every year.
Where: Trade. Doors: 10PM – 5PM. Tickets: Get ’em.
Wednesday, March 25th:
HARD Miami – We’d love to leave this one off the list re: 18+ crowd type at Grand central, but this lineup is too good to pass up. Cajmere, Destructo, Shiba San, Amin Edge & Dance, B2B sets with Amtrac (who always kills it) and our girl Maya Jane Coles leading the pack. Told you it’s too good to overlook.
Where: Grand Central. Doors: 10PM. Tickets: Get em.
Funkified Poolside Get-Down Jam – That’s right. WMC ain’t nothin’ to funk with. It’s not just about turn tables and lights, we have poolside parties like this one that’s headed by Louie Vega, Soul Clap, Nick Monaco, and none other than the funk wizard himself, George mothaf*ckin Clinton.
Where: The Deauville Beach Resort. Doors: 12PM – 10PM. Tickets: Get ’em.
2nd Annual F*ck Jams – Presented by one of the sexiest hands in the business, Seth Troxler’s intimate party at Do Not Sit On the Furniture will definitely make you feel some type of way. With The Martinez Brothers, DJ Three, and special guests…we can only assume this one will be squeal-worthy.
Where: Do Not Sit On The Furniture. Doors: 10PM – 5AM. Tickets: $30 at the door.
Thursday, March 26th:
WILD LIFE – Ever since Disclosure announced their WILD LIFE Showcase venture a year ago, we’ve racked our brains to figure out why they had yet to come to Miami. Prayers answered: Disclosure (DJ set), Justin Martin, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (DJ Set *Swoon*), and special guest: Carl Craig.
Where: Soho Studios. Doors: 8PM – 3AM. Tickets: Get ’em.
The Kitchen Miami – Presented by Red Rabbit + Craze, this is one of the craziest pool parties all week. You have Just Blaze, Craze, and Araab Muzik headlining, with Waka Flocka Flame making an always theatrical appearance, and if that’s not enough Nina Las Vegas, Sluggers, and Nick Catchdubs are among supporters as well.
Where: The Shelborne Hotel. Doors: 12PM – 10PM. Tickets: Get ’em.
Friday, March 27th:
DISCOBOX Presents – Questlove and DJ DZA. Need we say more? Okay, a little. The Edition’s Basement nightclub is probably one of the cooler underground SoBe locals, and with what will be music education at its finest with Questlove on deck, you won’t want to miss this hip-hop takeover.
Where: Basement Miami. Doors: 11PM – 5AM. Tickets: Get ’em.
Redbull Guest House – It may be invite only, but there’s always a way to admire the RBGH label lineups year after year. 2015 comes with big names like: Chromeo, Duke Dumont, Boys Noize, Destructo, Gold Room, Seth Troxler, Questlove, Lil Wayne, Kygo, The Magician, Pete Tong, and Joris Voorn. Make sure those tans are even, ladies, photo ops are everywhere from March 26-29th.
Where: The Sagamore Hotel. Doors: 2PM – 7PM and 2AM – 6AM. Tickets: You’re cute.
Saturday, March 28th:
Boys Noize Records 10th Anniversary – A decade of incredible dance music has finally led up to this party at your favorite backyard Wynwood bar, Gramps. With sets by A-Track, Peaches, Destructo, Salva, Robb Bank$ and the man himself, Boys Noize. Plus a “very special guest” tun tun tuuuuuun.
Where: Gramps. Doors: 10PM – 5AM. Tickets: Get ’em.
Bedrock Miami – Oh, John Digweed. How we love you so. If we want to put math into this, he’s been DJing for over 30 years. Long before most of us were even embryos. With a special extended set, he’ll bring his unparalleled production knowledge and a few cameos along the way.
Where: Treehouse. Doors: 10PM. Tickets: Limited available at door.
Moodnight + Maya Jane Coles & Friends – 2 rooms of insane partying, female power, and tons of bass. On one side, Nicole Moudaber and Skin will crush minds and hearts alike. And on the other side, Maya Jane Coles brings peeps like Philipp Jung, Bob Moses (live) and more. Mmm mmm good.
Where: Trade. Doors: 10PM – 5AM. Tickets: Get ’em.
Nice Age Label Party – Eclectic may be a word that drips off the tongue when experiencing the sounds at this Saturday night Bardot event. There’s Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (*double swoon*) who can do no wrong, Anna Lunoe, Nina Las Vegas, Manik, and a live Empress Of set. Yes, it’s real. And yes, TEED will be my best friend by the end of the night.
Where: Bardot. Doors: 10PM. Tickets: Get ’em.
Sunday, March 29th:
Dirtybird MMW Closing Party – Also serving as a decade celebration of a label whose mastered the art of party making. B2B sets featuring Claude Von Stroke/Justin Martin, and Shiba San/J. Phlip. UUUUuuuuuffff Steam is getting, well, steamy.
Where: Steam. Doors: 10PM – 5AM. Tickets: Available at the door.
“An Ocean Affair” Life and Death vs. DFA – Now, usually we like to stay away from the yacht parties as they accentuate our muffin top. But, this one’s too good to be true. In one corner, we have the admirable skills of Life and Death regs, Tale of Us, DJ Tennis, and Thugf*cker…and in the other corner we have reigning genius, James Murphy and his sidekick, Nancy Whang. Let the two steppin’ begin!
Where: South Beach Lady Yacht. Doors: 3PM – 9PM. Tickets: Stubhub, maybe?
WMC Closeout Party – It’s pretty clear that we’ve got a thing for Bardot. And when they book acts like Clark + Nosaj Thing to closeout their stacked WMC lineup, it’s gone from a crush to full-fledged puppy love. We can hear the beats already.
Where: Bardot. Doors: 10PM. Tickets: Get ’em.
